Personal stake

A friend of mine's in Lebanon right now.
For those of you who don't know, that worries me because the State of Israel just declared war, blockaded the ports, and has been bombing it for the past couple of days. More than 30 civilians have been killed so far, and an Israeli general told Ha'raetz (an Israeli newspaper) that "nowhere in Lebanon is safe."
God, I hate Zionism.

Escapism

Escapism, n. Habitual diversion of the mind to purely imaginative activity or entertainment as an escape from reality or routine.
-Merriam-Webster's Dictionary

This afternoon, I saw a presumably homeless man panhandling by the side of the road. Upon being given a dollar, he immediately raised his head toward the clouds and cried out, 'A blessing from the Lord! Thank you, Jesus! Thank you, God!'

Nationalism?

* I'm patriotic, yes, but nationalism no\n* Of course! I'm proud as hell to be a(n) [insert country here]!\n* Never. It drives us apart. Evil under all circumstances.\n* The nationalism of the oppressed is the most effective means to ending oppression, although internationalism is also important\n* I care why?\n

What's the point?

* I agree.\n* Camus was right; we must all decide whether to seek hope through lies, die now, or continue on despite life's meaninglessness.\n* Something religious\n* Our actions and our fulfillment create meaning.\n* Anything else- comments appreciated :)\n

For your consideration

A shroud; a shade; a fleeting imprint wrought

Of smoke, of shadow, half-imagin'd, lit

By longing, from a midnight silence brought

And banished, with a look, now, bit by bit.
