Hey queers, if you're able, you should get your butts to Boston on Thursday, to rally in support of same-sex marriage at the beginning of the Massachusetts Constitutional Convention, where the 'phobes are introducing a constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage.

Excuse me for feeling old. I wrote my first Oasis article about four years ago - for the Sept. 99 issue. I was entering my senior year of HS then. Friday I move back to the dorms to enter my senior year of college.

When I first wrote for Oasis, I had been out to myself for about eight months, and out to my friends for two. I was this out and proud lesbian. Four years later, I have a deep voice and stubble.

So you want to wipe us out, mister narrator? Shouldn't you be concentrating on the society that demonizes us? Shouldn't you concentrate on making surgeries covered by insurance? I don't want to be cured, thanks. I don't want to reassigned as a girl. Don't "cure" us. Accept us as fellow human beings, and respect us for who we are. Don't pathologize our identities and bodies.

Puberty the second time 'round...

Testosterone, injected into a female body, causes a second puberty. Remember how fun puberty was the first time around? Not at all, right? Well, the second time around, when, for folks like me, it's the right puberty, it's actually fun, believe it or not. The acne for me, thank the gods, isn't that bad (thank you dad for your good skin!). My shoulders are broadening, my voice dropping, I'm getting hairy, it's great.

Last year my on-campus job was a student security receptionist. Because of the paperwork involved, and since I didn't change my name legally till this past summer, most people at work knew me as Bethany, my legal name at the time. I didn't bother coming out to any of them.
