Assignment is a 25-minute weekly program broadcast every Thursday by the BBC World Service. This week's program dealing with the plight of gays in Iraq is disturbing --- in the extreme!

You've been warned... it's not pretty!

Hmm...
Were you trying to find this and took a wrong turn? ;-)

The emoticon hints that this is likely intended as humorous...
I clicked on the link; studied it. But try as I might, I can only view it as a non sequitur.
Or... could it merely be a subtle hint that the posting of the BBC link was inappropriate and/or ill-considered? Dunno... can't tell!
It amused me...
To think you heard of a new gay web series, and when trying to Google it, you ended up at some harrowing, bleak thing instead. That was enough to amuse me.
You always try and find 5X the amount of subtext than exists in these things. ;-)
Now, would I personally click a link called "Hunted to Death - Gay Life in Iraq"? No. It seems to be inviting bleakness. But if you think there is something to be gained from it for Oasies, entirely your call (well, it'd have to be, since I avoided listening... heh)

A bit dismissive... no?
I neither heard of nor Googled for a new "gay web series!"
It's seems quite clear that you truly have no idea as to who or what I am: A long-retired university professor (sciences) of many years... and not one who's here to satisfy prurient interests. If you disbelieve this, I'm sorry...
Since I am an avid devotee to BBC programming, this particular program just "came on" as programs are prone to do. I heard this one without any "searching"... and since it dealt with gay issues (which are covered much more extensively by the BBC than by any regular U.S. media), I thought some Oasies might be interested.
That's all!
OK...
I think I should stop using humor with you, since you either seem to not get it, or certainly not get mine at least. ;-)
The link was that your thing was called Hunted and my thing was called Hunting Season, so that it would be funny if you had heard of Hunting Season, thinking you'd check out what some are saying could be a new Sex and the City/Queer as Folk, and whilest searching for that, Google lands you on "Hunted to Death" about how shitty life is for gays in Iraq.
The irony there being the stark difference between the two pieces of content.
So, yes, the invented premise of you Googlng to find this is sort of what makes it all funnier, given the somewhat similar titles... to me, at least. And typing all this out, it still amuses me...

Since you "avoided listening"...
...(and, presumably, didn't even bother to click on the provided link), you are excused for not having noted that the Forum title I posted was the BBC's, not mine: a simple copy & paste!
No... your humor is indeed appreciated... don't stop! And I'll sincerely work harder to comprehend...
OK? Peace?
But... upon reflection, you must admit that any humor inherent in relating the two "Hunteds" is truly obscure. :)<<<
Sure...
I did understand all of the title business from past experience, though.
I've always said that I post what I find humorous, and anyone else who finds it funny is a bonus. I did enjoy Hunting Season, btw, since I was a fan of the famous blog it was based on.
OK, I won't put you on the ignore list just yet. ;-)

It's disturbing in most sections of the middle east.
or in your case, keith, the near east. but yeah, in most modern arabic countries, especially lebanon, egypt, iran, iraq, afghanistan, etc...life for gays is definitely a daily struggle for survival. in fact, it may surprise many that Israel is more liberal on this issue.
but yeah, don't travel in some parts of the middle east w/ your partner walking through the souks and holding hands. it won't end well.

Very odd indeed
Israel is very liberal compared to the other neighboring Western Asian countries or Arab nations. Seems like a thing with the Abrahamic religions. Eventually there's enough of a movement within religious societies to support civil rights and eventually something becomes of it.
It appears that groups like Imaan are making some progress, someday the rest of my LGBT brothers and sisters may live an equal life in their respective countries Insha'Allah. Of course These things take time, and time isn't something to be taken lightly.
Lonewolf....
Thanks for posting. Insha Allah! I am probably gonna be on some government watchlist now, considering I mentioned allah and am on a site they sometimes monitor for 'at-risk' youth....but still...I don't think most islamic countries, especially those ruled under sh'ria law will ever accept homosexuality...if they do, it will be a long, long time coming.
However, I met an Iranian lesbian couple once @ a show in seattle....so it is possible. I never thought I would see gay marriage legalized in a few states, or a black president in my lifetime, so we will see.

Well,
I subscribe to a very Liberal flavor of Islam as you can tell, so I don't use much of the Law, except for diet and etiquet. Attitudes shift, it takes time. And it's a very good discussion to open up in Muslim majority countries. Us LGBT Muslims need more representation, but as I said it's happening slowly but surely.
Oh, and Insha'Allah means "God willing" or "God wills it". After all, I'm sure God wouldn't approve of any discrimination against anyone for being the way they are or were born as. It's all about the loving God.
I am well aware of what it means...
But thanks for defining it for me. lol. I speak a little arabic, and have travelled to many arabic speaking countries, including syria, lebanon, jordan, and Saudi. I have actually been to mecca, which is more than many muslims can say, though I did not make the hajj.
The islamic world is definitely different from the west, but it also intrigues the hell out of me. It probably did my father as well, which is why he spent so many years in Saudi, Yemen, and the UAE.
I agree w. what you said above, it IS all about loving god, how it is done shouldn't matter.
Hopefully LGBT muslims do get the recognition and respect they deserve in the future,

By any remote chance...
Are you possibly familiar with (or, even visited) the Eastern Province (?الظهران ممكن) and the "MIT' of the Middle East:
جامعة الملك فهد للبترول والمعادن ?

I did not visit the eastern province...
sadly. I was only there for a brief few weeks, and did not get the chance to see the eastern part of the country or visit any of their schools. Sorry elph.
Most of my time there was spent in Jeddah and and mecca, though we did get as far east as Riyadh. It is beautiful along the water there. such a scenic place that has been surrounded by some ugly, ugly things over the years. I am sure their schools are amazing though, as are some of the colleges in Iran.
