I Was Wrong, The Stars Are Aligned!!!!

Sam2000's picture

Please read my previous journal's comments.

This will then make sense I hope.

I know I have people on my side, maybe you all can make others feel the same way?

Reaching out to those who need us is the greatest gift you have to give.

I think I can smile now :-))

Thank you all for being there!

Sam

hehe...

Just seemed like too easy a thing to make happen...

Nope... Not the stars...

But... just maybe, the planets? :)

Tycoondashkid's picture

but thats bad

the planets only aline once a year on 21st of December, its not December yet, Stars do aline though elph and its a even rarer phenomenon

elph's picture

You know...

I fully realize that you're pulling my leg! :)

Within any human's lifetime there's nary an observable change in the relative position of the stars as seen from any location you may choose in this universe...

Tycoondashkid's picture

the stars don't move...

the System moves, Solar systems, Galaxys move, slowly but surely

Solar systems orbit the center of the Galaxy, the Galaxy orbits something.

elph's picture

And... this...

negates something in what I said?

Tycoondashkid's picture

you said the stars don't move in a lifetime

EVERYTHING moves the sun, planets, moons, micro-planets, dust, radiation, meteors, comets ALL move, Sol moves :)

elph's picture

You refuse to read!

You are, indeed, a worthy pupil of Jeff's!

Tycoondashkid's picture

thank you but i did read

you said you it doesn't move but it does you can't tell by looking at it but it does move

elph's picture

Nope...

I said nothing about moving! End!

Tycoondashkid's picture

nope

"relative position of the stars as seen from any location you may choose in this universe..." you basically say that they don't move, and "from any location you may choose in this universe..." is scientifically wrong we can see a near by Solar system move, and so does ours so we can see from ANY location

jeff's picture

Well...

I read. I just disagree with things.

don't blame me ;)

Elph said a fact was false

elph's picture

Non sequiturs pursued ad nauseam...

suggest either a total misunderstanding or willful obstinacy!

Consider:

Me: "I'm a Caucasian."
You: "No, you're a vegetarian."

The discussion (observation of apparent movement of stars, planets, etc.) has evolved into an exchange that is equally obtuse by your failing to comprehend the meaning of the English words "relative" and "observable!"

Your retort that all entities in the universe are in constant motion was never denied by me... that response, however, had no bearing on my original statement of fact: it was a total non sequitur!

To paraphrase my original assertion: The stars we observe from earth (or from any other location in the universe you may choose) are so unbelievably distant that to our naked eyes any motions they may individually be executing are virtually undetectable!

The upshot of this is that our naked eyes can detect no apparent relative motion between any two stars you may choose. This fact remains throughout one's lifetime... summer through winter... although with the change of earthly seasons the location in the sky of the chosen stars will change... their relative positions (as observed by us on earth) will appear unchanged!

The only astronomical entities that appear to show relative motion with other stellar objects are: man-made objects, meteors, comets, asteroids, moons, etc... but not the extraordinarily distant stars themselves!

****

Now... returning to the superstition: Planets can appear to align with each other and with stars. Some special alignments (planets with other planets; planets with stars) are supposed to portend special earthly or human events... some good, some bad! But all are superstitions!

Also... my comment to Sam2000 was intended to be taken lightly... and not turned into a debate devoid of substance. :(

And this is why we now have

The Tycoondashkid Pontification Hub! For telling Dash he's wrong! Which he is! And you've now perfectly explained why - brilliant example with the vegetarian thing.

("failing to comprehend the meaning of the English words 'relative' and 'observable!'" - watch him come in now and tell us that 'English' isn't his first language...)

Sam, really terribly sorry 'bout the journaljacking. The Pontification Hub was supposed to mend that.

Tycoondashkid's picture

English isn't my first

@ elph i misunderstood

elph's picture

Yeah... that'll work! :)

So... can we start over?

Tycoondashkid's picture

-

the discussion or the whole thing.

if so lets take it to the forum

elph's picture

That discussion is over... I think :)

I mean... let's just be our natural selves! OK?

Tycoondashkid's picture

i understand

we should probably stop talking on this journal

MacAvity's picture

Oh wow.

This is beautiful.
Thank you Jeff, and Sam too, for making this happen!

Sam2000's picture

This is kinda funny!

I guess it's funny that anyone would even want to hijack anything I write?

Should that be a compliment?

Sam ;-))
