do you like your own nations anthem?
i personally love the Scottish one, it was written all the way back in 1314 when the Scottish army under the leadership of Robert the Bruce defeated Edward II of England after the battle of Bannockburn, the thing that makes this better is when England changed their national anthem to God Save the Queen which has a anti-scots line "May he sedition hush And like a torrent rush Rebellious Scots to crush" so we changed ours to flower of scotland to mock them its just brilliant XD
so ours is:
O Flower of Scotland,
When will we see your like again
That fought and died for
Your wee bit hill and glen.
And stood against him,
Proud Edward's army,
And sent him homeward
Tae think again.
The hills are bare now,
And autumn leaves lie thick and still
O'er land that is lost now,
Which those so dearly held
That stood against him,
Proud Edward's army
And sent him homeward
Tae think again.
Those days are past now
And in the past they must remain
But we can still rise now
And be the nation again!
That stood against him
Proud Edward's army
And sent him homeward
Tae think again.
O Flower of Scotland,
When will we see your like again
That fought and died for
Your wee bit hill and glen.
And stood against him,
Proud Edward's army,
And sent him homeward
Tae think again.
South Africa!
It's one of my current favorites I love how it's composed of five out of the eleven official languages of South Africa. Xhosa, Zulu, Sesotho, Afrikaans and English. Plus it's neo-modal. It was made the new national anthem of South Africa in '94.
Nkosi sikelel' iAfrika
Nkosi sikelel' iAfrika,
Maluphakanyisw' uphondo Iwayo,
Yizwa imithandazo yethu,
Nkosi sikelela,
thina lusapho Iwayo,
Morena boloka setjhaba sa hesu,
O fedise dintwale matshwenyeho,
O se boloke, o se boloke,
setjhaba sa hesu, Setjhaba sa South Africa,
South Africa...
Uit die blou van onse hemel,
Uit die diepte van ons see,
Oor ons ewige gebergtes,
Waar die kranse antwoord gee,
Sounds the call to come together,
And united we shall stand,
Let us live and strive for freedom,
In South Africa our land.
i can image just
a ton of people just being confused when it isn't there language bits XD and some people that think its just taking the piss because its in 5 different languages XD
i only drink irn bru and the occassional blood of my enemies
does anyone else see the
does anyone else see the irony in alot of national anthems that tehy say they are united but its usually a nation that is not united
I don't like the US National
I don't like the US National Anthem. It's all about bombs and fighting. But there's a movement that's trying to make the new one America the Beautiful, which is really nice.
