There's no way in hell they're gonna pass that bill. All the big name websites are protesting and the senate keeps getting angry phone calls from people everywhere. It violates the first amendment and I just can't imagine that even a government this stupid would pass something like that.
It's giving them power to shut down any web site without a reason. They aren't lenient, either; Americans arrested a British guy for just posting a link to an illegal download. That and the bill is supported by the corporations that own the illegal web sites just so they can get money.
I think they got the idea from Troll Science:
But that seems like stuff they'd never get away with. The Internet is too powerful and too free. And I assume that they know that, and know that they can't cover up what they do to the Internet. It seems like the most they can actually do is... well, actually protect intellectual property, albeit not entirely effectively. And protecting intellectual property seems like a worthy goal, no?
the fucking-up powers of the US Government. Our favorite Government has powers of fucking-up so vast, you wouldn't believe it.
And copyrights make sense, and protecting them is good, probably, but this law is not the way to do it. Oh, also, I hate that the bill makes illegal downloading a felony, so that means if you torrant something illegally, (which quite literally everybody does), you could go to prison for up to 5 years.
It'd be like making jay walking a felony. Cockulous.
The bill would give the USA power to arrest anybody in any country for illegally downloading something. The Internet would be owned by the US, pretty much. Again USA arrested a guy in the UK who was not an American citizen for posting a torrent link.
We arrested a american for something serious & the american government freaked out, no matter where you are the government is full of Twats but yet again we arn't standing for the english trying to talk about scottish policies so a place like scotland we would ptobably refuse american law like what we used to do england and get paid for it

Just like when they voted on whether or not pizza should be a
vegetable.

This is what I think of SOPA. by Samavade

So...
Pardon my ignorance, but what exactly is everybody's objection to SOPA? Isn't it just trying to enforce some perfectly just copyright laws?
Is this even about SOPA?
Censoing the Internet.

Oh, and also
the companies now trying to get the law passed distributed file-sharing software for years.
