Is it okay to make fun of gay people if you're gay? My opinion is no, its not ok.
I also don't think its ok to make jokes.
Though what I find especially frustrating and far from ok is when lgbt people throw out the "f****t" word. Okay, so I understand we're referencing ourselves or whatever, but I don't get how that makes it ok.
Going on tumblr, for example, and people say something and then end the post with "f**" ....I dont get how thats any less hurtful than someone whos not gay saying it.
Anyone agree on this one?
Its really been bothering me.

I think it is prefectly fine
I think it is prefectly fine to do...
Frankly there is nothing in this world that is going to stop me form doing so...
They are just words and frankly I don't see what the big deal is...
I will never see what the big deal...
So yes the word 'fag' and 'faggot' will always be part of my vocab, because frankly it doesn't matter...
Plus the fact that I am gay also means that it is fine...
Sinice I am essentially making fun of myself by making fun of another gay person by using those words...
I mean frankly to me it is like a black person using the n-word which they do quite a bit were I live...
So I don't see a problem...
I chuckle at the stereotypes
I chuckle at the stereotypes that surround lesbians, and I refer to myself as a dyke, and yes, I will laugh at jokes about gay people made by gay people. Because really it's just us laughing at ourselves. And I think it's important to be able to laugh at yourself. I mean there is a limit, but as long as it's harmless and in good fun and it's not overdone, then eh. Dykes can make fun of dykes. Fags can make fun of fags.
It's sort of like how black people can call each other nigger but everyone else can't. I guess.
I agree with radio
I agree with radio here...
That was sort of the message I was trying to say...
Hers makes it sound a lot less worse than mine which sounds kind of bad... :S
Reappropration
I find it amusing.
fear of a word only
fear of a word only increases fear of the thing itself
Yeah....
I don't even mind if straight people make fun of gays. Key point is make fun. Fun, lighthearted joking, humor, no real offense meant. Totally different from mockery, hating, et cetera. Everybody just needs to stop being insulted by joking.
Also, like Socialist said, reappropriate. It worked wonderfully with queer.
There's a difference between "Hate speech"
And poking fun :P
I quite acknowledge that I'm a huge faggot. Ain't no hidin' it. But if someone uses it hatefully, it's bad. Just like any other word. You can be like, "Gosh you're such an idiot :P" or "You're such an idiot." and they both mean different things, in entirely different complex contexts.

That's redick!
I used to be all "NO GAY
I used to be all "NO GAY JOKES EVERRRRR!" but my perception has changed a lot. I think it is okay if you are gay, or even if you are a straight person who is only joking. That is the key there. Harmless joking among friends? Totally okay. But gay-bashing? Totally not okay. Fortunately, there is a huge line between the two!
Words
only have the meaning you give to them. When conversing with friends, I call most of them "skanky fucking bitches" or something of the like, but that means something WAY different than if someone pissed off and I was like You FUCKING LITTLE SHIT, believe me, they'd know what I meant, i.e., definitely NOT a term of endearment.
Now that don't happen often, but yeah, individual words aren't important, it's only WHAT you're saying with them.
I don't use faggot that often, it's just not a habit of mine, but when Shelby calls me a faggot, I understand it's just a term of endearment like almost everything else I say, the actual pattern of sound that she makes isn't really the important thing, it's what she means by it.

Someone in my class today
who doesn't know that I'm gay used the word faggot a lot when we were in a conversation. For example: I used a girl's scented lotion on my hands (because I try to keep my hands smooth, even though the smell makes my throat burn) and he said that I now "smell like faggot."
Yeah.... I think that falls
Yeah.... I think that falls under the header of... 'not cool dude'. Diffently should have 'corrected' that asshole....
20 points to the person who gets the movie referance of my last sentance... :)
