So there have been a few homophobic incidents recently where I live and its despicable and disgusting how little is done about it.
I won't use details because I don't want to trigger anyone.
But this really pisses me off and I wanted to say something but I didn't know where I could do so.
A couple weeks ago there was a anti-gay incident and then a couple days later, the cops arrested people that were trying to stick up for the gay people involved.
This next incident hits closer to home.
A person I met recently, they were gay bashed really badly. Thing is, they won't/can't tell the cops because of how homophobic the cops in my area are. So this person has to take on the responsibility of helping themselves and protecting themselves because the police force here hasn't done shit for gay people recently.
I'm afraid it will just get worse.
And people say this area is getting more tolerant?! Wtf?.
It sucks. It makes me a combination of sad, angry, and fearful.
They didn't deserve it at all.
...I could use a little reminder that there are non-lgbt people out there that actually care about lgbt people's well being...
Comments
Err...
I wouldn't worry too much about triggers. We need to get people steeled up for life here, not some PC make believe.
Especially in cases like this where the detail might help explain why the cops think they can get away with it.

Incident one...gay couple
Incident one...gay couple held at gunpoint. At the rally to support the gay couple, cops arrested some of the people there that were protesting the incident (ie, they arrested lgbt-supporting people). I don't think the perpetrators were disciplined in any way whatsoever.
Incident two...an individual was gay bashed and is pretty shaken up.
But for incident two, because of the homophobia seen in incident one by the cops, the individual won't do anyhting. They won't tell the cops.
So now all us queers have to be super fucking careful when we walk outside, fearing another attack.
(oh and thanks, Jeff, for the video :) )
Hmm,
I suggest you write a letter to the Mayor or if you want to go further, maybe write your Congressperson.
Hmmmmm =)
Mabey start a new google email acount and send emails to
The Chief of Police
he either dosen't know about it or dosen't know he could lose his job over it.
The Mayor
Got to get in as many points as possible with the voters
The News
They have to show something other than the Weather
Gay Rights Activists
First local groups than try the bigger organizations
Celebrities
I'm not saying they'll come over and ring the door bell but they have conntacts and can get the word out about how unfair things are.
Hey it's just an idea but if you want to get things done sometimes you have to take the first step so that others know where to go. (*^_^*)
And...
whenever anything happens, break out the smartphones and roll videotape!
And if they say it's illegal, they're wrong: http://blogs.findlaw.com/decided/2011/08/citizens-have-right-to-videotap...
