I'm not sure if I've shared it here or not, but leaving in about 12 hours, my family's going to Turkey for 2 weeks.
I will be taking my laptop most likely, so my presence here will depend on the wifi wherever we might be staying. I really don't know too much about Turkey and their feelings about wifi...
So, I dunno too much about Turkey, and I don't imagine it being particularly exciting... But when we went to Iceland 2 years ago, I didn't imagine that being particularly exciting either, and that turned out to be either the second or first best trip I've ever done in my 15 years.
So, what do I know about Turkey?
I know it's in a part of the world named Asia Minor, and it's capital is Ankara. Most of the country is in Asia, except for a little across the Bosphorus Strait which is technically in Europe.
I think Istanbul is the biggest city, originally named Byzantium in Greek times, then later in Roman times renamed Constantinople by Emperor Constantine. Finally, it was the last stronghold of the Byzantines before being taken by the Turkish cannons during the golden age of Islam in 1453. Originally just in Europe, it's now expanded to be on both sides of the Strait, making it the only major city in both Europe and Asia.
The Turkish empire the turned into the Ottoman Empire, which then fell after the time of Napoleon, turning it into modern Turkey.
And I think that now, it's largely muslim still? but with more secular politics than some other countries in the region.
And that's mostly what I know, almost exclusively based on what I've learned out of hours of playing Civilization and reading the Civ Files.
Well, see ya Oasisies, for any length of time from tomorrow to 2 weeks from now! :P
EDIT: Look at this: http://booklover206.tumblr.com/post/6793345447/iconic-pride-at-seattle-p...
FUCK! IS THAT WHAT I WAS MISSING DURING PRIDE, WHILE I WAS SITTING AT MY HOUSE ALONE BEING A LOSER?! FUCK MAH LIFE!!!
Just a reminder to my future self: I KNOW YOU'RE TAKING HARD CLASSES THIS YEAR, BUT YOU HAVE NOTHING BETTER TO DO THAN KEEP YOUR GRADES UP, CAUSE IF YOU DON'T AND MOM DOESN'T LET YOU DRIVE WHEN YOU TURN 16 IN MARCH, THEREFORE NOT LETTING YOU GO TO PRIDE NEXT YEAR, I WILL COME UP FROM THE PAST AND RAPE YOUR ASS!!!

turkey
is largley muslim, but the goverment strongley supports the seperation of church and state.
"A loving man and woman in a committed relationship can marry. Dogs, no matter what their relationship, are not allowed to marry. How should society treat gays and lesbians in committed relationships? As dogs or as humans?"
Lucky!
I've never even traveled out of the country. One day...
Anyway, Turkey sounds like an interesting place to go. Not exactly my first choice, but still intriguing! Have fun dude! :P
Have fun.. Istanbul is one
Have fun..
Istanbul is one of my dreams.
That Seattle Pride pic...
Copy and blow it up for your bedroom wall! It is indeed iconic.
Maybe... hopefully... next year. In the meantime...
Amazing,
You are so fortunate to do so many great things and you're not even 16! An amazing life you lead!
:-D
Interesting fact: Islam is the prominent religion in Turkey whereas Atheists and those who don't want a religion outnumber the Christian population.
I had to look it up...
But something struck me as odd to see "atheist" capitalized; it shouldn't!
Thanks for encouraging me to look it up...

I went to Turkey last year it was a great place. Its cultured and has great home ornaments ha
You know, just keep in mind...
It's Istanbul, NOT Constantinople. Been a long time gone, Constantinople. Why did Constantinople get the works? That's nobody's business but the Turks.
Have fun, dearie. We'll miss you if you can't show up.
