Drivers beware.

I passed my driving test today! I'm soooo happyyyyy. In a week I'll be going to the DMV to get me mah lisence, and then it's sweet freedom at last. I can't wait to cruise the town and stuff, being on my own. Ah, the sweet taste of victory.

Now I just need to start looking for a car to drive, which will be almost impossible. My dad refuses to put a single dollar toward my car and I'm still looking for a job. My mom can help a bit, and maybe my grandparents. Even with the help, there aren't a lot of cheap used cars available in my town.

My mom's been a bit more pleasant since the discovery of the LGBT book. I think she's denying everything though :| I'd rather she yell at me about it then just deny it and act like nothing needs to be discussed. At least if she was yelling at me I would know she was taking my sexuality seriously. *SIGH* Oh well. My counselor will set her straight (so to speak) when my mom talks to her next week.

Let's see...I twisted my ankle bowling. I don't even know how that happened. I didn't know you could injure yourself bowling. It's like, the safest nerdiest easiest sport ever. I was in the middle of my second game when it happened, so I did horrible my third game. Eh, oh well. I'll kick ass next time.

Oh, and it was so nice to see everyone's pics in Magic's post. You're all beautiful. Who knew there were so many sexy people on Oasis? :P

Congrats, kiddo! So, um,

Congrats, kiddo!

So, um, car. I'm not going to offer any advice but I'm going to talk about my life in relationship to a car. Having a car to drive around is awesome. You can go wherever the heck you want, not having to wait around for buses is fantastic, and you can show off. If people you don't want to drive ask for rides, saying no is surprisingly easy: say no, and if they complain, scream "GAS IS EXPENSIVE!" and hop into your car and drive off. Seriously. Gas is effing expensive.

Now, I don't own my own car, but when I DO get one of the cars that my parents drive, that's what it's like. Money is the biggest factor here. If I'd have gotten a decent used car, I'd be out a year's tuition for university and be watching all my money go into gas. I still wish I had a car, but in a way I'm glad I didn't buy one. So yeah, that's my take. Whatever you decide, have fun, and do your research and take somebody who knows how to buy a used car with you =)

Thanks. And if my mom had

Thanks. And if my mom had two cars, I would get one. Unfortunately, she only has one very expensive brand new car that she would never give to me in a kajillion years :|

If gas weren't so goddamn expensive, I would be a bit more excited about searching for a car. We found a really nice bright blue used car that's pretty cheap, but my mom's flipping out cuz there's a TINY BIT of rust above one of the back tires.

Eh, if it's just the paint,

Eh, if it's just the paint, then it should be okay and you can buff it out. Though if the actual frame is showing rust then you've got more of a problem. How's the transit in your area? Because as nice as having a car is, I don't really super-duper-must-have-car need a car as I can just bus around (though it DOES take ages for a bus to come along sometime).

Our transit is not so great.

Our transit is not so great. We only have two taxis that you rarely see and a very limited busing system with very strange routes. So, the way I see it, my only option besides a car would be biking or walking :|

Congratulations!

If you remember this one rule, you'll be a safe driver:

Never, ever, change to another lane without being absolutely sure that that lane is clear!

There are other rules as well... but this one is paramount!

radiosilence95's picture

Thank you!

Oh, I completely get what you mean. I take forever to make a lane change because I'm so cautious and I check my mirrors twenty times. XD

Congrats! I wasn't even

Congrats!

I wasn't even gonna bother getting my licence, then I was in the car going up to Vermont with a buncha friends, and we could see the mountains, and the sun was setting... So we rolled the windows down and blasted Pink Floyd.

THAT'S when I decided that I should get my licence.

So yeah.

It's not wicked high on my priority list though, because I'm going to school in the city and I'm not gonna want or need a car there.

You haven't gotten your

You haven't gotten your lisence yet? Aren't you older than me?

That reminds me of my cousin. He hated the idea of driving and waited two years after he turned 16 to get his lisence. I think he STILLS hates driving, but it's the only way for him to get to work everyday.
