Pork
It's been a thought I've had for awhile. It seems like something I could be a part of plus it makes clear sense to me. Of course here I am associated with no religion other than basic Bible tied faith. It has dawned on me that I've found the thing I'd like to be a part of. I don't know how everyone would handle it though.
What I'm saying is that I'm getting into a new religion, Islam. It's sad there's much controversy over this religion... but then again which doesn't? The only way this is unfortunate for me is that I need to unbrainwash some people of their preconceived ideas of what Islam is. Not that I'm going to do that here.
My mother and father might be a little taken aback by this. That's a big part of it. Another big part is having to teach myself most of the stuff I need to learn in order to be a practicing Muslim. Unfortunately The Internet is my only source of study on Islam. Although this could be changed by asking this certain person and asking him about it. Although that would seem so rude of me.
So far I know (very basic);
1. Allah is a name for "GOD" that even Middle eastern Christians use.
2. Jesus or Isa (peace be upon him) is believed to be the Messiah.
3. Muslims follow The Holy Bible and The Holy Qur'an.
4. The prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was a leader who The Angel Gabriel revealed the Qur'an to.
5. Islam is an "Abrahamic faith" along with Judaism and Christianity.

Do you have to give up meat altogether? Or is it just pork? *is a practicing Buddhist and thus really has no idea about Islam*

Never really liked pork
of any kind. Not even bacon. It's okay, but I don't shove it down the hatch. It's too fatty for me, it's gross.
And I've always been partial to Islam, because I haven't heard of them doing anything terrible as a church, (specific people have, but they were twisting the faith and using religion as an excuse to do terrible things, while as a people I haven't seen them do anything terrible, which has happened in other churches :P).
And I hate that everyone seems to dislike them. It's stupid. Well, good luck.

very little input here, other than islam is beautiful. when i was in israel, i heard the call to prayer from the mosque in a nearby town every day. it always happened during my daily run. it was the best.
what i find sad about the
what i find sad about the controversy around islam is that it's actually a very beautiful religion, the five pillars are honestly very good rules to live by. however it's been so twisted by society into things it isn't and even more so by extremist groups. i feel this way about most religious groups - the original teachings have been twisted and disfigured by the institutions which enforce them. which is why studying the texts for yourself is often the best alternative.
and if you ask politely, most muslim people are happy to explain their religion and its history.

XD i fricken love islam *high five* but that partly stems from my intense defense of any minority/peoples tht are demonived.
i laready dont eat pork, never had, never will. also beef. this is partly from the fact my perants dont, but they eat beef, i choose not to. do you have any idea how much crops could be raised for ever cow? like a ton. literaly. plus cows are cute :)
and they arnt like chikcens who make eggs every sinlge day, cows have like one or two babies a year.
but yeah, islams great, in my opionion :D once my grandma said they sholdnt be allowed to run any countries, only christians should be allowed to do any sort of goverment. i nearly exploded from intense rage. we then argued for( i kid you not) 7 hours.
