As far as I know there are three options:
-Spend a lot of time singing in the moonlight on rocks near the water, while combing your hair with a seashell
-Wish on a star or a sparkly shell
- Get on some sort of genetically modified fish hormone, move near a nuclear power plant, and if that fails... surgery.

They spent their time just sitting on rocks in the middle of the ocean, staring out to see and singing their songs, and gobbling up any men they may happen to seduce passing by.
Sounds like a good life to me.
