I am a huge video game fan- Especially for the music.
I suppose the first music I ever got addicted to was two of the Final Fantasy games- 1 and 7.
Gosh, what a difference in sound between those two. And even moreso for the most recent!
I've been listening to the main theme from game one until the final one, and it's so marvelous hearing a change from a tritonal beep up into a full-blown orchestra. It's beautiful :) But they're all amazing!
Did you know for the original NES and GBA sort of era games, they could only use three tones at a time? Well- For you music nerds, this is exactly one chord. An arpeggio in a scale is a chord in that key, for example. So to make music like this:
OKAY Youtube's embeddy thing is pissing me off, here's a direct link
It was, in fact, a very hard task to create a melody, an undertone, and a harmony that wasn't too boring.
I really do find this fascinating.
I may not be able to compose music quite yet, and I'm not an astonishing player or anything, but music is so beautiful. I'm really nerding out here!
Anyways... I really love older games. My favorite as of right now is TES: Morrowind. It has so much heart and soul into it, and I've been playing for like, two or three years and haven't finished all the quests yet O__O
It's insanely good. It's so immersive. And the music is gorgeous too, the main theme makes me shiver a little bit XD
My goal isn't to be some soloist who puts on solo concerts and looks like an utter douche being like "Oh I'm so cool, look at me play a song super fast"
Plus I'm a viola.
But, my dream is to be part of the team of people who make music for games and movies- The people behind the scenes, who make you feel scared, or happy, or in the mood to kick some ass. That's what I think makes a real musician, not flashy vibrato violin speed skills, or a Stradivarius violin.
Anyways, I'm sorry. I dorked out this whole journal.
