hmmmm having odd thoughts today...
should i really be so worrried about getting equel lgbt rights when there are problems like hunger and dieses and war? wouldnt my time be better focused on doing damage control for those things then getting equel rights? idk im just in an odd mood right now

Well,
We all have our causes, for certain reasons.
For example, yes, if I had to fight for something, it would probably be to like move to Africa and live among the people there. Find out what it's like to really live in an underprivilaged place, get perspective, and then fight to make their lives better.
I don't really care a whole lot about lgbt rights, to tell the truth. Yeah, get rid of all sodomy laws, no physical abuse against lgbt, and get everything but marriage, I'd be fine with that. I don't need my marriage to be officially recognized as a MARRIAGE, just as long as I get the economic advantages.
I just don't really freak out over lgbt issues. It's just not my thing, but it's yours. That's fine.

...also goes a long way to explain why governments feel obliged to restrict the behavior of their citizens. Regrettably, a democracy tends to produce laws that reflect the least progressive social and political views of the community (otherwise, the pols aren't re-elected). :(
I don't see what's wrong with supporting both causes
It's not an either/or thing. And hey, what about lgbt people in third world countries? I know what you mean, but if there's more than one problem, you can work on one w/out feeling guilty for not working on the other. Plus, I agree, it isn't so much about laws as it is about people's discrimination. If people were more open, the laws would come right along.
I think that the world needs people working for every cause gradually, not just one with everybody centered on it. lgbt is one cause, and starvation, epidemic, genocide, etc. are others. As long as you're thinking of one, you're OK.
Just my thoughts.
And,yeah, I agree about democracy.
