So, I'm looking for good movies with lesbian characters for two purposes:
1) to watch by myself
2) to make my parents watch with me (they make me watch heterosexual movies all the time) (must be "age appropriate"—I'm 14)
and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions.
Personally I really enjoyed Imagine Me and You.
O_o
I had a good movie in mind. and then you said "age appropriate".
If you ever feel like seeing something super lesbian and super fun, watch "But I'm a Cheerleader". BEST.MOVIE.EVER. (It's not really age appropriate. [but what really is this theses day?] Give it a look see.)
Something "age appropriate"...I can't really think of anything. sorry! :(
Don't worry too much about
Don't worry too much about the whole age appropriate thing...not that big a deal as age appropriate for me is closer to age appropriate for most 15/16 year olds than for most 14 year olds. I saw But I'm a Cheerleader....I agree, it was hilarious.
Hey there!
Show Me Love (Fucking Amal) is a good age appropriate movie. It's about two girls around your age, so you could probably easily watch it with the folks. It's in Swedish, though...so you'll have to read subtitles. It's cute and good.
D.E.B.S is definitely age appropriate as it was the first gay movie to get a PG-13 rating. Some people like it, some people don't. For me, it's not the best gay movie, but it has it's moments. And Jordana Brewster. XD
Oh, and Fried Green Tomatoes if you haven't watched it. The romance is pretty much left as subtext, but still massively wonderful. :)
I could probably come up with some more, but I don't know about if they're age appropriate or not. Heh. In my house we never went by that stuff. We pretty much watched anything and everything.
I actually just watched
I actually just watched D.E.B.S. yesterday. It was pretty good...not brilliant or surprising, but funny, and well, Jordana Brewster.
Fried Green Tomatoes is one of my favorite books, and the romance between Ruth & Idgie is more mutual than it is in the movie, so I was a bit disappointed. Actually, I was totally pissed. Not only did they mess with the timeline, they messed with the relationships, which is such a beautiful, central part of the book...I screamed at the TV.
Thanks to your recommendation I just (as in, just finished) watched Show Me Love. The predominant thought going through my head was "What a beautiful way to make 'coming out of the closet' literal!" It makes me smile. Thank you.
THIS IS AN IMPORTANT CLARIFICATION ON THE FORUM TOPIC!!!
Age appropriate only matters for movies I watch with my parents, who are in semi-constant denial that I'm starting high school and almost all my friends are either older than me or have older siblings, so I'm more comfortable watching movies with lots of sex, violence, and profanity than they think I am.
