Naiveness

I was having a pretty fun day, until my Mom picked me up. Like Kidrow79, I, too, had an argument with my Mom about scholarships but not for the same reasons.

While we were on our way home, my Mom scolded me about showing part of my essay for a scholarship to a few friends of mine saying, "It's a competition." I showed it to them partly for peer-editing but to help them get inspired, as well.

I know that getting this scholarship is very competitive, but is it bad to help your friends who are also trying their hardest to get it? I was getting mad at her because my ideals about being a friend are different from hers. She thinks that I shouldn't help them if we're competing against one another, but I'd be willing to help regardless of whether or not I get it or they do.

Am I right to think this way, or am I just really naive?

No-Brainer...

I think I can understand your mom's concern... but your sharing your personal creativity with friends is commended.

It also demonstrates a personal self-confidence in the quality of your creation!

Congratulations...

I think

That you are kind and open hearted, and dedicated to your friends. I admire that. Your mom is thinking on your behalf- But you seem to not care as long as you're being helpful! That's a very kind gesture that your friends should be sure to return :)
