McMillen: I Was Sent to Fake Prom
By Advocate.com Editors
To avoid Constance McMillen bringing a female date to her prom, the teen was sent to a "fake prom" while the rest of her class partied at a secret location at an event organized by parents.
McMillen tells The Advocate that a parent-organized prom happened behind her back — she and her date were sent to a Friday night event at a country club in Fulton, Miss., that attracted only five other students. Her school principal and teachers served as chaperones, but clearly there wasn't much to keep an eye on.
"They had two proms and I was only invited to one of them," McMillen says. "The one that I went to had seven people there, and everyone went to the other one I wasn’t invited to."

wtf?
you would think the student body would explode from contact with gayness from the way they are acting!

Oh man...
Jeez, just listening to this makes me tired...
I'm amazed that there is still THIS much determination to stop her from getting to the prom. Just, wow.
I hope she continues to fight this.
She should get a surpreme court order and ram it down their throats!
Hai-kus are ea-sy

wow when i thought it was
wow when i thought it was all over
Technically...
She was at the prom, seeing as the principal of the school and other chaperones were there, etc. The students decided to have a private party instead of attend their prom, so it's probably legal.
Here's what some of her classmates have said:

there are no words to
there are no words to describe how utterly disgusted i am.
but something in the article isn't true.
the FB group Constance quit yer cryin' has been taken over by Constance's supporters. someone posted something like, "hellyeah, constance should quit crying. and start kicking some asses!"
..
anyway.
join the group if you're on fb.
and make sure you put the gayest shit on theree.
make those bigots know that they need to shut the fck up.
This is just...
I don't think I have the words. I mean the lows people will stoop to. I'm just so so disappointed in those people. The adults that bar LGBT kids from bringing a same-sex date to prom or from wearing what they want to wear, I mean what the hell? A prom isn't about them or their ideals, it's about the teenagers who want to go to a dance with a date, get all dressed up, and have for for an evening.
I'm just so tired of this kind of thing happening.
That's...
That is just disgusting. What could possibly make it OK to ostracize someone like that?
Though, on the bright side, she didn't have to go to prom with them.
I think I read somewhere
I think I read somewhere though that another gay student was at the other prom that all the kids went to. He wasn't excluded. Maybe they just didn't get along with this girl and it wasn't necessarily a sexuality thing.
Thats not to say I condone excluding someone, just that it may not have been a lesbian issue.
No one can make you feel inferior without your consent-Eleanor Roosevelt
So?
What difference does it make, whether or not they excluded her for personal reasons?
It's just as revolting, whether it was a lesbian issue or not.
As I said I wasn't condoning
As I said I wasn't condoning their exclusion of her. I was just saying it may not have been specifically a lesbian issue.
No one can make you feel inferior without your consent-Eleanor Roosevelt
It's completely repulsive,
It's completely repulsive, what these people did. But the most anybody can do is just comment on how disgusting their actions were. Private party= can't sue. Again. Which really sucks. But hey, the flak from the internet... every single one of those kids and their parents and their supporters will be ashamed of themselves one day.
Why? Why so much effort?
Why? Why so much effort?
wow
that sucks epic ass :(

Yeah...
This made me shake my head the first time I heard about it. It's just sooooo absurd. But looking at all the photos of lesbian (and a couple gay) couples at their proms, that were in the Facebook group "Let Constance Take Her Girlfriend to Prom!", made me UBER happy.
It kinda made up for the absurdity of this whole situation.
