oh the irony XD

Gays seeking equal rights will no longer be allowed to congregate and demonstrate in Israel. The Knesset passed two bills through their first reading last week. If enacted into law, these bills will forcibly silence gay rallies across Israel.

This curious denial of rights is a hypocritical irony, demonstrated most succinctly by an anti-gay demonstrator during what will probably be Tel-Aviv’s last gay pride parade. According to an Army Radio reporter, a religious protester shouted to the marchers: “It’s a shame the Nazis didn’t finish you off.”

Meanwhile, Badatz, an Orthodox sector of rabbis, placed a curse on gay rights marchers and the police who maintain order during their demonstrations:

All those involved in the matter [of gay rights rallies], those of impure souls and those helping them and guarding them, they will feel in their souls a curse, a bad spirit will come over them and haunt them, they will never be cleansed of their sins from the judgment of God, in their bodies, their souls and their finances.

Spooky stuff. Who knew Orthodox rabbis were so practiced in their evil curse casting skills?

I think the US should step in here...

Israel is basically an extension of the US. We're basically best friends, and we pretty well created them. We're the reason they exist.
If they are, they should start acting like it. No human rights violations, and we should have made them do the Iraq war.

Oh, and did you write this? This does not sound like da ferrets.

Last time I checked, the

Last time I checked, the United State's involvement in the affairs of sovereign nations (regardless of their relations to the US, Israel is one) has been less than amiable...

Like The Dominican Republic
Or Afganistan
Or Argentina
Or Nicaragua
Or Honduras
Or Grenada
Or Vietnam
Or Panama
Or Mexico
Or Chile
Or Haiti
Or Cuba
Or Iran
Or Iraq

I'm thinking that the United States should stop taking an active role in the affairs of other nations... And besides, don't you think that the United States should first make a commitment to human rights (*cough* Guantanamo) before it pressures another nation to make one?

The current instability in

The current instability in the Middle East has nothing to do with the actual belief system of the region. Rather, it's due to Western influences, chiefly that of the British and French during the 1800's and 1900's. A lot of it stems from oil and petroleum. British Petroleum (3rd largest energy provider and 4th largest company in the world), has its roots in Iran. British Petroleum (BP) was originally called the Anglo-Persian Oil Company (APOC). However, during the 1950's, the Iranian government nationalized the oil industry, removing the AIOC (APOC had become AIOC at this point) much to the anger of the western world. The CIA, under directive of Eisenhower, assassinated the then in control prime minister in "Operation Ajax". The Shah dissolved the democratic government in control and formed an autocratic government, appointing a pro-Western prime minister. Thus the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) was restructured as an international consortium, with AIOC becoming a member of it. Then there was the Islamic Revolution in the 70's, the capture of US dignitaries, and the Iran-Contra affair.

And besides, the muslim community has been stepped on over and over again by the West. France was never a vassal state of Syria. Britain was never a vassal state of Iran. The United States was never a vassal state of Saudi Arabia. The only one to really wage a holy war has been the West. Those holy wars were called the "crusades".

Through and through, the United States and Europe has always been involved in the affairs of other nations for their own benefit. Hence post-colonial Africa and autocratic regimes in Central and South America and the Middle East.

Oh, and we're not in Iran.

Oh, and we're not in Iran. At all. But we're in Afghanistan because that's the location of Al Qaeda. As for Iraq, there's a number of theories. The most accepted reason is the notion that they (a) had weapons of mass destruction, (b) they were actively producing weapons of mass destruction or (c) they had the capabilities to do so. However, that turned out to be misinformation given to the executive (the president at the time, George W. Bush) by the C.I.A. who had been pressured by the executive to deliver a report on Iraq and WMD's.

Completely unrelated to the notion that the muslim community has openly declared a jihad on the United States. Because well... that hasn't happened....

Disagree and Agree

I almost completely agree with Nanook and his points here, especially dealing with our reputation as a country. Just two things though.

1) I'm not quite sure we can say that none of the animosity between Islam and the western world stems from religous belief. After all, Islam was founded by a man who was known for military ability, and much of it's history has been made through conflict and war. Obviously, this is not the reason why the animosity exists (I think you pretty much covered that part), but it's important to remember that this particular region is not unfamiliar with fighting predominantly Christian nations invading their land.

2) Personally, I think our economy had more to do with our decision to enter Iraq than most know or would like to believe. War is still a huge industry in the US, as many jobs depend on the production of weapons and defense. It would have been too easy for the government to influence a poorly informed public to go to war, especially after 9/11.
President Eisenhower actually warned about our "military-industrial complex" getting out of hand, and there are many, myself included, who believe it may have already.

yep...

Definitely seeing the irony.

Homophobic or not, I find it kind of incredible that a Jewish person especially would wish anyone dead at the hands of the Nazis.
