Off guard is how I felt today after I got this text from my sister:
"We need to have a bit of a heart to heart when I get off work around four. It seems we've been keeping secrets from each other"
I read this literally seconds before an essay exam. Yeah, to say the least, I didn't remain focused too terribly well.
So, apparently, my mom told her. After I told my mom not to. The reason she gave was that she "didn't want her to hear it from someone not related to her". This, to me, was a major WTF; my sister lives about 260 miles away from us, and the only other people who even know I'm gay is about 20 kids from my high school.
Luckily, she's been really amazing about it. There have beens some comments in the past that have miffed me and made me suspect a little bit of homophobia, but she was really cool. It's just... well, it caught me off guard.
Oh, yeah, she already told my other sister too, the one who lives in NOLA.

What a great outcome!
I hope that other gay teens take heart...
