Does Watching the L Word = Gayness ?

Gabby21's picture

I should be getting ready for bed...but I am downstairs watching the L Word on Netflix. I would watch it on my computer and have a bit more privacy but my computer won't let me :) Anyhow...my sister (who is my twin) likes to watch it also. She claims that she is not in fact gay. But um...really? I know (and usually I do) I should be patient, everyone has their own time for coming out and so on, and maybe she does in fact like it for the stories. However....really though...isn't that bullshit? I know that's the line I gave everyone when I read/watch anything glbt related...but the LWord...there is a lot of naked women (which I relatively enjoy) and they have sex. So....? I don't know. I need to be patient. I guess...I'm just irked because I feel that I have been so honest with her that she would be honest with me...wouldn't I completely understand? Deep breath. Patience.

I watched Friends and I'm not straight.

Me too :)

That's true... but I suppose it the naked simulation of lesbian sex. So...what's a good equivalent... Sex and the City?

jeff's picture

I doubt...

you'll find an example where I'd think someone able to watch a gay show is automatically anything more than open-minded.

That's True...

I am very lucky to have such a supportive sister :D I suppose I'm just paranoid...like I said I need to calm down haha...

A good equivalent is 6 feet under...

They show gay sex scenes and make out scenes in that. Very in depth ones too.

well....

I cant really say I mean in one mind I want to almost agree with you, but in the other aren't we kind of sterotyping? or maby sterotyping isn't the word and the correct word is labeling? I mean can be honestly say that you can't be straight and enjoy the L word? Isn't that a little....pregadist? (I really have no idea what word Im aming at here and I've probably plicked all the wrong ones but) I mean if shes one of those girls who loves those really drama filled shows like soaps or anything on ABC family then ya maybe she does just enjoy the stories...
Maybe you'll just have to wait and see

Haha :)

It's okay! Although I was like "ooo four new comments!" Yes I'm sure it is a type of stereotyping/judging/or what not. I suppose there are other things...that kind of make me wonder...but it's alright. I'm going to let it go :) Thanks for your comment(s)!

If only gay shows made

If only gay shows made people gay... I'd tie my crush to a chair and make him watch every single second of Queer as Folk and The L Word mwhahaha

Haha :)

You will have to let me know how that goes, haha! :D I don't necessarily think watching gay shows make someone gay but rather might be an indicator especially if it is sexually explicit. (Among other signs...)

I have a friend....

from Elementary school that I reconnected with on Facebook, she's straight and is a fan on The L Word. I've heard of straight women watching both The L Word and Queer As Folk....so, I don't think that your sister is necessarily queer.

Do you want her to be gay?

Gabby21's picture

Indeed it is true :)

I have heard that a lot of straight women watch both The L Word and Queer As Folk. It just makes me wonder sometimes. Um, I really don't care what she is...she's my sister. I love her no matter what :D I guess I would want her to tell me if she is gay or not. However, she is a lot more reserved than I so I can't expect the same amount of emotional "sharing" from her that I am used to. Thanks for your comment! :D

I don't know whether is

I don't know whether is means you are gay.

But the L Word is sufficiently rubbish- I mean honestly, love it or no it's pretty bad- that you only have an excuse to watch it if you're fairly gay.
