Are a lot of fun!
I'm now typing out a letter to my grandparents, and I'm writing this letter with a machine probably older than they are. I'm surprised at how good of condition this thing is, as I haven't really used it since I got it at a garage sale (20$) 3 years ago. The P key sticks, and it probably needs a clean, but it works well.
And there's just a majesty to hearing all the clicks of the thing, then the little bell as the carriage hits the end of the track.
What a marvelous machine...

yes!
Ah awesome- there's a typewriter for sale in a charity shop near my parents' house (hopefully it's still there), but I needed to find out how much typewriter ribbons were before I bought it.
I want it to make zines.
Yeh!
Ribbons could be a genuine deal breaker!
I'm rather curious as to how swimmerguy avoided finding that the ribbon in his machine was unusable...
When I was his age I have very fond memories of my father bringing home an ancient and very used "Oliver" typewriter. What use I put it to! That's another story for another time :-)
ooh!
my aunt has one somewhere in her dumpster of a house :D i've always wanted to use one...
Hi, I'm a reading Rainbow! :)
I have an old Royal.
The ink ribbon is long dried but its very cool.
I used to write letters on it all the time.
A typewriter is way more personal than a computer. :)
