Is there a graceful way to be outed?
A few days ago, in one of my classes, there is this one guy I'll call T widely rumored to be gay. He just has a LOOK about him, and not just in his clothes. Just his features. And his actions. And, I may just have the tiniest bit of a crush on him :P
Anyway, here is a conversation with him after he received a star dreamcatcher gift from someone for Christmas:
T: It's (the gift) so shiny! I'll hang it over my bed and my mom will say I'm gay because it's shiny!
Me: Oh, that happens to me ALL THE TIME.
T: I bet. Are you gay? (that dreaded three word question)
Me: *Looks down* yeeeaaahhh......
T: (typical response) *laughs* Are you serious?
Me: In all seriousness, yeah. I am.
T: I think I need to sit down for a second.
Me: Well then. Want a candy cane?
T: Yay! Thanks! I love you now!
Me: Ok... I love you too.
Is there some graceful answer to that three word question?

i tend to think that just a blunt quick yes does it. if you really dont want to answer, i would suggest that you stand on a desk and wave the flag of the french revolutionars. trust me, that will make everyone forget about asking you questions u dont want to answer.

yeah, he randomly walked up to me, hugged me and was like "awww i love you shelby!" and then he was discussing how he was hermione in the group because he was the only boy, and it was me and kyleah. so i was harry. and stuff. it was weird, but funny.

Just a matter-of-fact "Yeah" is fine. Plus, if he asks if you're gay, and you say yes, I don't think you have any issue asking him the same. If he asks why you want to know, tell him you don't like having crushes on straight guys.
