Blessings in disguise

Well, since I see I have never posted this story before, I shall call it blessings in disguise. Tell me if I should put it in a forum.
Back in 5th grade, the school nurse came into our room and announced that we were doing scoliosis tests. If you don't happen to know what that is, scoliosis is basically a crooked spine. She told us that 3% of people had it. I assumed that this was irrelevant to me, after all 3%? I don't get that unlucky. But, lo and behold, when the tests came by, the nurse checked me down. (If you count the gay boys with scoliosis, boys are about 50%, gays are about 11%, and scoliosis is about 3%. That means I am in a privelaged .15%. HAH!)
When we went to the doctor to see what we should do, she told me that I'd get tests every 6 months, and, that swimming was a good thing to do to help it. My mom signed me up immediatley.
Now, my swimming and good posture has eradicated my scoliosis, and I still swim, and it's one of the biggest and best parts of my life. And I might never have done it if I didn't have the INCREDIBLY good luck to be in that 3% of scoliosis.
Have you had any blessings in disguise like this?

A Valuable Cautionary Tale...

...and... a mother who cares! You're very fortunate to have grown up in such a nurturing social and cultural environment. And all indications are that you have taken full advantage of all it has to offer!

I think you may be unstoppable... But who would ever want to try?
