LOVE THAT SONG!
Anyways quite a few things I wana update on.
National exams are creeping up soon... 16 days is it? Dude, that's such a short time. I have to sit ten exams. TEN THREE HOUR EXAMS. Hello? That's just insane. Five subject exams and five scholarship exams. Aiming for all excellences (top 2% for all 20 papers) for my subject tests, and at least three scholarships. Pathetically fantasising about the premiere award, which is top seven in the country... lol I must be crazy.
So been studing like crazy. Pretty sorted for biology and chemistry. English is okay. Statistics is alright. PHYSICS NEEDS TO DIE. I wish I did media, drama and history. I would've absolutely pillaged them.
Oh by the way, I'm the only person in our year to get all excellences in the essays for our practise english exam. I even bet my friend who came "top in english" (well I've always naturally been second). I wrote on Shakespearean tragedies, art house films and the inherent darkness in New Zealand literature. Hopefully I can do just as well in the real exams.
So been studying like crazy for the past few days. Non-stop studies until 11pm every night after dinner. About time. I already wasted months of the year thinking I can do everything last minute.
Also started this running routine everyday. Going to keep it up.
As for university next year... here's what I'm applying for at Auckland University:
- Conjoint Bachelor of Law and Bachelor of Arts (Political Science and English Literature)
- Conjoint Bachelor of Law and Bachelor of Science (Biology and Medicinal Chemistry)
- Bachelor of Biomedical Science (which leads either into research or being a doctor)
Also applying for American Universities after I sit my second SATs. Aiming for perfect score in my SAT IIs. Hopefully.
Also sent my application for the biggest GLBT tertiary entrance scholarship in New Zealand supported by a gay Member of Parliament. It' $2000, which is good money. I'll tell you guys if I get the interview or not.
So that's a little update on the non-boy-complicated-boyfriend-hereandthere-manwhore-relationship side of things.

Wishing You Stamina and Success!
I have every confidence that all of your efforts (combined with your innate qualities) will be rewarded with the very best scholarship, degree program, and university of your choice. Of course, my fingers are crossed thinking you might actually make it over here.
However, I certainly don't envy you with that exam schedule :-(
GOOD LUCK! Holy shit that's
GOOD LUCK!
Holy shit that's a lot of exams!
And hun, if you did THAT WELL on the SAT's... I'm sure you'll do fine on the exam's you need to take. ^.^

I'm an American student, who
I'm an American student, who plans on applying to New Zealand universities, and the applications are kind of ridiculous. Because all I need, apparently, is a high school diploma and an 1100 or 1600 on the SAT (1100 for University of Auckland, 1600 for University of Canterbury.) It doesn't seem right that you live there, and have to sit through 30 hours of exams.
Yeah...
30 hours is only if you take scholarships which is optional. I'm taking all five scholarships, someone who only sits subject exams with no scholarships have only 15 hours of exams. It's 3 hours per exam. That's how our system called NCEA works (FalconWright on this website should know - he lives in New Zealand as well). And it's a one off thing at the end of the year, unlike SATs which is shorter and you can resit again and again.
I'm quite surprised at the entry SAT requirements four our Universities actually. Because they definitely don't correlate with the University rankings. University of Auckland is in the top 70 in the world, University of Canterbury isn't even in top 200 I think, and everyone here knows University of Auckland is more prestigious. It really depends what course you're doing as well, Canterbury probably has a higher entry mark because they specify more in one area like engineering. Auckland University accepts a wide spectrum of undergraduates doing Arts and Social Work and Education which are basically open entry - so on average it seems like they require a lower entry mark. When it comes to "Law" and "Medicine" at Auckland University, their first year entry is relatively easy as well (which contributes again to the deceptively low entry requirement), but second year they get rid of about 3/4 and 5/6 of applicants respectively (no jokes) - most end up transferring to or finishing their conjoint Arts or Research degree.
Another would probably be our smaller population. Our universities don't have the sort of endowment as American Universites, so a lower SAT requirement probably entices more international students.
Our Universities are also based on course not ability (Canterbury = Engineering, Victoria = Law etc), so each University has a wide spread of performance ability. It'd be bad assessment to say all New Zealand people are performing between "SAT 1100 - 1600" as there are all those other factors. The smartest at Auckland University (entry SAT 1100) would be smart enough for any Ivy League, and there are also the not-so-smart ones.
Hope that probably explains it a little bit.
