Teachers like having sex with students at my high school.

Yep, the title says it all. A teacher has been arrested for having sexual relations with a student at my school. The worst part? It happened at my school last year, too. Is that a new record?

It was a female teacher with a male student. The student's in my grade and in one of my classes...at least he's not my friend or anything. That'd be kind of crazy. (But then again, I don't make friends with people who do such stupid things.) I have to say, though...at least the guy was hot...

I've always known that my school is messed up, but now I'm starting to learn just how messed up it really is. As horrible as the situation is, you have to admit, we'll all have something good to talk about at school for at least a couple days.

I don't really see the issue, as long as it's legal (like the person's not a minor) and that the teacher's not actually teaching the person they're sleeping with.
It's happened twice in my old school (private) so the teacher only got fired (since it's private the law does not require the police to intervene). Nevertheless, I don't agree. I mean: if A likes B and B happens to teach at A's school but not A, and A's old enough to chose who to sleep with, what's the problem? I find it more troublesome to sleep with your boss or your barista.

He was underage and I'm pretty sure was in one of her classes. I think that teachers are supposed to serve as role models and professionals, and secretly having booty calls with kids 20 years younger is definitely not kosher with that definition. Maybe it worked with the pederastic relationships of Ancient Greece, but things have changed a lot since then.

Thats gross. And messed up.

Thats gross. And messed up. Its, in a way, weird to hear about a female teacher doing that. You usually just hear about males.

Last year at my school our Athletic Director got fired for some "unknown" reason (he slept with a student) and our principal resigned a week before school started (he knew about the AD and the student) And our principal, who was the basketball coach too, messed around with a girl on the team. Of course nothing happened to them because its a small school and everything just got swept undertherug basically but everyone knows it happened.

it's a problem because once you say this kind of stuff is okay, it gets harder and harder to tell what is "okay" and what is abuse, or was forced, or when someone was taken advantage of.

You Can't Really "Consent" When You Are Not An Equal

This discussion comes up here on a regular basis. What's wrong with it is that it is an abuse of power. It has nothing to do with age, per se, which is what always gets people sidetracked. It's because there is an inherent imbalance of power between a teacher and a student (even if it's not their own student), just as there is between a boss and a lower-level worker, an officer and an enlisted person, or any similar situation where one person has, or is perceived by the other to have, some kind of undue power or influence over them. That is why such relationships are usually forbidden by corporations, schools, the military, etc., even though they may not be illegal. Of course, there are always situational exceptions, but exceptions do not invalidate the rule.
