New Forum in the Works

Anonymous's picture

Hi guys!

I'm working on a new forum called Woe and Peace. It's still under construction, so please don't post anything there just yet. You can click on the Forums menu tab and read the description though. I should have the introductory post, which will contain a lot more details, up by tomorrow. I think that, in addition to the new Resources tab, it will be an additional help for many of us, if only to help keep the site a bit more organized and less chaotic.

Comments and suggestions welcome of course, but you might want to hold off until you've read my intro post so you know a bit more about what exactly it is I'm trying to accomplish with it.

*HUGS*,
Pat

So...

You're announcing that you're going to announce something, just not yet? :-)

I like the wordplay, but I think it should have a positive name. "Woe" reinforces the negative, no? Sort of like, we have resources for coming out, but none for people who can't come out yet, since it's more important to build a path from where you are now to where you want to be.

From our perspective, if you're closeted, your goal is to one day be out, however long that takes. But we don't have tips for being closeted, how to cope, gender-neutral way you can keep lying to your friends, etc., because we don't see that as a state which should be maintained any longer than necessary.

It needs to be a forum for people to *get through* their depression, not a forum *for* depressed people, etc. I also wonder, if there is a forum for this sort of stuff... is that good or bad? Like, if I'm having a good day, would I just be like, 'Well, I'm in a good mood, skip that...'? (Not that I would, really, since I use admin-only pages to see all new comments across the whole site all the time... so I never pick and choose, or even know, what I'm dropping into half the time.)

But I do think words have a lot of power like that...

There are my $0.02, heh. Oh wait, you didn't ask for comments.

I'm sure there are good suggestions here that I will wind up incorporating into the new forum, but I'm tired now and it's been awhile...and the anvil was handy...

It might do nothing at all, but I'm just going to plant it and see what grows (as Jack said to his furious mum after he had traded the family cow for three magic cannabis seeds). :P

Well...

If my problem is the name of the forum, seems good to bring it up before anything's in it, no? That's a good time to change something. :-)

See...

You say you all want the site to be drama-free, when in truth, you're all addicted to drama. :-)

Much as it Pains Me to Say it...

...Jeff's right. I've decided that this isn't the right way to go. I don't want to send any mixed messages. Oasis is NOT in the crisis intervention or therapy business. We have the structure in place already to discuss whatever we feel the need to discuss. I think the "Resources" tab was the best way to go for stuff that falls beyond our reach, and I'll be adding to that soon, but I've scrapped the related forum.

Don't get used to it, Jeffrey.

In related news, however, I do have a different forum idea in mind - one that is definitely well within our scope here - so keep your eyes peeled (who the hell thought up that saying? EWWWW!). I'll make a big, showy announcement when I get it all done.

HUGS,
Pat

hehehe...

Why is there so often a caveat before admitting I'm right? Why is this still so surprising? :-)
