I need some of the best arguments (athough e all kno they are truly all crap) but arguments AGAINST gay rights... I have to do a debate in my one class and was put on the con side of Gay Rights. (The teacher knows i'm gay and I like a good challenge and I'm smart enough to actually be mature about it) No it's adam and eve not adam and steve type remarks allowed etc. Respectful ones.
um...well, they used
um...well, they used procreation in the courts. as in: marriage is there so that people can/will have kids. (which is really lame, but it's their argument).
also, marriage is between a man and a woman, that's how it's always been, that's how it should remain.
you could also take sort of the easy way out and say that gays can have civil union, but 'marriage' is a religious institute.
oh, and gays already have domestic partnership, so why do they need marraige?
i'm going to go take a long shower to rinse all that crap off of me now...good luck with your debate! :D

Lol thanks... it's sure a challenge.. cuz alot of stuff is about marriage which i need but i also want stuff about just plain old rights.

you're in canada, yeah? i
you're in canada, yeah? i think that's what your profile says... anyway, if you were in the states, i'd tell you to use the whole "the people have voted, and the majority doesn't want gays to get married" schtick. which is bull, but that's what they're saying.
i did something like this a few years ago; we did a moot court trial. this was back when gay marriage was first becoming an issue (god, don't i sound old? lol), so my best friend and i did this huge project on it, and at the end, we were supposed to present it as a supreme court case to a panel of 'judges', which were really just other kids. anywho, i stuck her with arguing against gay marriage, and she could not find a single, valid argument against it.
despite that, the so-called judges came back with a unanimous verdict against gay marriage...and all got Fs because they were biased, and didn't listen to my arguments.
so yeah...good luck with finding a good argument. i'm not sure if there is one, other than the bible, and even that has a LOT of holes in it.

It's a religious principle
It's a religious principle where political motivation should not reside. The church should make the decision and not the politicians.
true.
wait, what??? are you saying the church SHOULD decide whether or not we should be able to get married? wait, i think i see your train of thought now, nvm,

You could probably say
You could probably say something like politicians and politics are guided by their morals, and say that morals come from religion (only for some people, but pretend) and so if religion says no gays/gay marriage, we should listen to it.
My biology class last year had a debate on whether genetic engineering was good or not, and I was on the side of that it was good. I only won because I could talk faster and more coherently, and could ignore some facts, and fudge other facts into conclusions that supported me.
Well...you could use the
Well...you could use the "slippery slope" argument. You know, if we start recognizing "sinful" or "unnatural" marriages, we will also have to recognize incest as valid - if gay couples have rights, so should sibling couples. (People usually also go to bestiality, but animals can't sign a marriage contract so that argument is stupid as well as bullshit).
You can also use pedophilia for slippery slope, though again...children aren't consenting adults.

You could say that GLBT
You could say that GLBT people are less than ten percent of the population and we shouldn't be wasting so much time on such a small minority when there are much bigger problems facing the entire country and world, such as the economic crisis, poverty, etc.

or approximately 1.4%
or approximately 1.4% depending on your preferred statistic.
those stats are kinda out dated dude.
those stats have remained consistant since the 80's, however, I believe there are now more gay/ bi people than ever, and there is also an extremely large number of us out there that are not willing to come out, be it for religious, social or family beliefs and values.
but i do agree w/ you on the fact that there are a ton of more pressing issues to be dealt with in the world today that affect everyone, not just the gays.

Gay couples shouldn't adopt
Gay couples shouldn't adopt because then there won't be a parent of both genders (I know there are many families that have adult(s) of only one gender, but work with me here). Gay people shouldn't be protected by anti-discrimination laws because they aren't born that way (we actually don't have scientific proof yet). Gay people should be excluded from employment in the public sphere, especially schools, because they will convert innocent bystanders. Gays shouldn't serve in the military because 1) Male military members will emasculate the forces 2) Female military members will try to break the glass ceiling of female military service and will disrupt military gender roles 3) Lovers do not make the best armies; they simply distract from one's celibate duties. Gays shouldn't marry because it's unnatural. If you can't have sex the old-fashioned way, how will you consummate your union? Gay media should be censored because anything gay automatically has to do with sex.

be careful if you go with
be careful if you go with the its a church ting. That can get turned around on you if they realize that, if you say marriage is strictly a religious thing then, because there is separation of church and state, then shouldn't all thee laws be gotten rid f that have marriage in them? this doesn't win them the argument, it can just be used to get the topic changed which either side can take advantage of. if that's used against you then just say that is off topic and move it back on topic :P
Also
i suggest you stay away words like "sinful". Because it is a religious concept they could try to play the always ignored separation of church and state rule. Idk and arguments, just things to watch out for and to be careful stating. Oh and try and get them to agree with u on things, even if its something unimportant. a good way of arguing might be like
"so do you think blah blah blah" and have them agree
"and this blah blah blah" have them agree
now u connect it with something they don't want to agree with like "so since you support blah blah u must also be against gay marriage" u can use that slippery slope thing this way if you use each and go "since all these are in the bible as bad then of course ur against blah blah blah" i just realized though this is where they can put in they "do you follow every rule in the bible" so its up to you. you can always lie and say u follow all the rulez
and this ended up longer than i thought it was going to be hope it helps

Here's some
Don't use religion as an argument, if the opponent is smart enough it's easily refuted and will make you end up looking like a closed-minded bigot anyway.
Gay rights spread right across the spectrum, it could be equal job opportunity, protection laws, or even go as far as marriage and adoption rights.
When talking about protection from discrimination, you can say this is already achieved by conventional law. If it is already preceded by existing laws that protect everyone, there is no reason to supercede it by introducing laws that seem to be favouring "special interest groups".
You can also discuss the individual's right to choice. There's this ideal that everybody should love and get along with each other, but that is unrealistic. How someone feels about someone else for any reason is a universal right, and the ability to express that is crucial to having free speech, as long as it doesn't compromise the safety of the other person. That's for the argument dealing with general discrimination.
Marriage and adoption is a little harder. But I think you might have to somehow label homosexuality as an unconventional type of relationship - much like polygamy and other forms of relationships that are not legal. This way you can say for a state or nation to be stable and thrive, it must be made of conventional and similar units - and that is the nuclear family with a mother and father. Acknowledge that other forms of relationship will still exist, but the state or nation should not encourage (or discourage) it. Obviously the state cannot cater for every possible form of relationship deviating from the norm, because then it would be impossible to draw the line.
That's just some ideas. And please note, I do not hold those views. I can easily rebut them myself, but they are reasonably sound arguments for the other side.
Hope that helps.
