This is interesting.
People from the Westborough Baptist Church are flying in from Kansas to protest at our school’s production of “The Laramine Projects,” a series of monologues put on by the GSA relating to the Matthew Shepard tragedy. I think this is absolutely ridiculous. I mean, really?
Their website is godhatesfags.com. I am not even kidding.
And the absurd part is I don’t think they are, either.
I’m just going to laugh about it the same way I would if someone tried to convince me the world was flat, or stars were really fireflies, or hot chocolate wasn’t delicious, or… you know.
Fortunately, with a website like that, who could possibly take them seriously?

You'd think they'd be concerned with...gee, I don't know...anything other than targeted discrimination.
Their website is hilarious. "God Hates the World" "America is Doomed"...
Wow.

You know, I've often wondered if there's anyone or anything the WBC does NOT think God hates.
I haven't actually gotten a good look at their website and am unlikely to, though — I have a little Firefox extension that keeps tabs on how safe the websites I visit are (as in, are they free from viruses, spyware, phishing, etc, based on user ratings), and it threw up a "dangerous site" warning message when I tried that website! I found that humorous. And oddly fitting, actually, though "dangerous" isn't quite the right word. :-)
I hope their protesting doesn't mess up your play! I saw the movie version and liked it a lot.

haha! Westborough Baptist
haha! Westborough Baptist Church is coming to your school to protest?! That
s crazy! They're definitely not kidding lol. All you can do is laugh at them, despise or pity them if you will.
We talked about them in my sociology class last year. My prof told us the site name, so of course I just had to check it out. Of all the signs, my favorite was, "Your pope is a whore"
I also watched some of their videos. They're actually unbelievable. You watch it, and then you find yourself sitting there just blinking, thinking wow, these people are seriously delusional.
The things they've done, unforgivable in my opinion (ie picketing people's funerals is one example). With them, we're no longer talking about what's socially acceptable and what isn't anymore, they take it to a whole new level. What they do crosses the line of what's right/ok, and what's wrong.
Cool...
Fred Phelps has done more for gay rights than anyone gay, in my opinion. Good stuff...
Sadly, their protest will potentially be more interesting than that show, though. I do find it odd how often that dirge is performed. Of course, it's great for schools, because you celebrate diversity and at the same time, the main gay character is dead. Win-win.

Awesome. It's a shitty
Awesome. It's a shitty mawkish play and the only possible way to make it endurable would be the knowledge that it's annoying that travelling freakshow.
Haha, I think lol-taire's
Haha, I think lol-taire's response is the best thing to come from this. I haven't seen the play,or movie or whatever, but I'll be sure to look into it. I'd say that just know that it bugs them, and there isn't a thing they can do about it. Laugh, and know that their presence will probably get more people to come see it. Ha, don't you just love back-fires?

If you protested next to a "god hates fags"sign with a sign that says
"except for me"
I would love you forever.
Just a suggestion.
