So, Jeff raised an interesting question in reply to a journal I posted. I was talking about how much I admire Obama, and how much hope I have for the future, and he pointed out that Obama is about getting up and DOING things. (I had to stop that sentance....it was getting out of hand) He also asked me what I'M doing to change (well, that was the jist of it....)
Anyway, I got to thinking, what are WE doing to change our world, our country, our community, or just ourselves? It doesn't have to be big, it doesn't have to have worked, it doesn't have to be profound, but answer this: What is one thing that you have done to help change your tiny part of the world?
Or, if you can't think of anything, or want to get some extra credit, what's something you'd LIKE to do? And try to keep it reasonable. So I guess the question should be, What's one thing you COULD do to change your part of the world?
My Change
As soon as I'm old enough, I'm going to train to be a firefighter. First to fight forest fires here in California, then hopefully I'll be able to move back to the city and be an urban firefighter.
I'm also going to start volunteering at a local LGBT center, once it's up and running.

I farmed at The Food Project
I farmed at The Food Project when I was in high school, and now I want to work with youth development and nonprofits when I graduate. I want to start a farm school mixing foster kids and non-foster kids in a multilingual, experiential-learning school setting... once I settle down.
Right now, I'm working as a head cook of a kosher kitchen in my college. It's a wonderful community, though I'm not Jewish myself. I'm kind of like a college minister for the students, helping to foster that warm, life-saving community.
I helped start a community garden on my campus.
I listen to people.
I'm learning Arabic.
I'm out as bisexual in my lesbian-centered school.
