HOLY CRAP. Does anyone watch 30 Days? It's a TV show on FX hosted by Morgan Spurlock, the documentarian who unleashed the film "Supersize Me" upon the world. The show basically puts a person completely out of their element for 30 days. The elements are always controversial, however. Examples include putting a hunter in a family of animal rights activists, a Christian living in a Muslim home, and this week's episode about an extremely conservative Mormon living with same sex parents.
The show had me screaming at the television. The Mormon woman was SUCH A BITCH. Ugh. Even after 30 days with an absolutely adorable family with gay parents, she still would rather have kids more or less fending for themselves in decrepit foster homes than living with loving gay parents. She just made me SO pissed...I can't believe there are people out there who are such hypocrites--they claim that they follow the teachings of a loving God, yet they're so selfish that they care more about defending their own views than actually helping people. I kind of thought helping people was the priority.
(And P.S.: I'm totally not bashing religion, in case you got the wrong impression! Just bashing the hypocrites...this world could use less of those, I'm sure.)
Yeah...
It was pretty amazing how incredible self-righteous she was, and downright rude and offensive to everyone she met. And then she'd freak out when she felt like people were against her and ganging up on her.
This is the only episode I remember where the person has no change during the experience. I was glad at the end that the gays finally said they didn't see any reason to keep in touch or have anything to do with her... and, once again, she's clueless and seems shocked that he would say that, because she believes what she believes and he just believes what he believes... the same tired nonsense she said all the time.
And how she kept admitting she didn't know anything about gay parenting statistics or anything else, but she'd still be self-righteous about her ill-informed and, honestly, stupid opinions.
I'm glad she packed her magic underwear and left that poor couple alone after 30 days...

she did change...
...a little over the course fo the show...but not much...the one i'm waiting for is the gun control one...if that million mom marcher thinks that family has a lotta guns...whoa, come see my storage sheds from clearing out my dad's place...lol
Mental wounds not healing, driving me insane, i'm goin' off the rails on a crazy train- the ozzman
Mhm.
I think the most ironic part of it was when she agreed not to be friends. She's more fervent in her religious views on homosexuality than on kindness and compassion, yet I'm sure the Book of Mormon places more emphasis on the latter. It goes to prove that she really is more dedicated to herself than to her God.

Grr
This made me mad! She didnt ever try to keep an open mind!! Not cool!!
I'll see if I can find that
I'll see if I can find that on the internet, but from what I can glean from this, i'll be absolutely steaming after I watch it...
yeah
yeah you might. If you do watch it, make sure you dont have anything heavy, you would want to throw it at this woman!
yeah...i saw that last night...
fuck dumb bitches like her...almost as crazy as the fat 'christian' lady on wife swap...lol.

What a bitch. It makes me so
What a bitch. It makes me so happy to not be her friend, and to not be like her...

um...
I haven't seen the episode in question (I don't think my house even gets the right channel for the show), but... can I ask what good it does to bash this woman?
I'm hoping everybody is just letting off steam!

Hmm...
I'm not bashing her as much as using her to represent every person who uses religion as an alternative to conscious thought. Plus, it's always grating when people keep trying to say how much they support you personally, but God tells them to stand in the way of your every right, dream, and happiness. You know, I'd rather you just *not* support me, cuz at the end of the day, that's all it is... :-)

A little bit of dishing
A little bit of dishing never hurt anybody. =] And if you saw the episode, you'd want to talk about it, too. It was...frightening.

I really was sad, because
I really was sad, because she didn't change at all, almost gets worse... and she always just continues repeating the same things with stuff like, I don't understand why god makes it a sin but did..... but, why not just watch and see for yourself...
Hulu really is a great site....

Thanks for putting that
Thanks for putting that video marco_polo... I pisses me off how she doesnt change at all. But it does make me realize that the other side is kind of going through what we are, people being against what you believe and trying to change laws into something you believe is wrong.
I think ...
I almost feel that they started the argument on the wrong point. You cant argue why gay parenting is bad before you argue on why some people think being gay is bad.
I mean, she kept saying that the main reason she didn't like gay marriage was that it showed that the "gay lifestyle" was o.k., and that topic was never addressed. It was just like gay is bad from her, and no opposition to that main idea from them.
That argument might have happened in real life, we can't know because of editing and how they presented it on the tv shows, but I don't blame her for not changing her views if no one showed her the main reasons her views were wrong, that being gay was not an evil choice and a sin.
Err...
If she thinks gay is wrong because of her religious views, I can't imagine it would have mattered much. But yeah, she is anti-gay in general, and therefore against gay adoption as a result. I don't think there are going to be any people who are accepting of gay people and against gay parenting, really.

Actually, you'd be
Actually, you'd be surprised. Well them being against gay parenting shows that they're not entirely comfortable with gay people. But for some reason people seem to think that gay parents would be bad for a kid whose growing up because they would have two fathers or two mothers and it would be a "lopsided" view of sorts. That reasoning doesn't make sense to me. My dad alone is very "fatherly" and "motherly". So to speak. And my mom is more of older-sisterly. I don't think she ever matured past 16. But that's another matter entirely.
I was annoyed with the woman though because she felt like it was okay to force her moral views onto everyone else, without even understanding the issue. She saw those kids, and that they were happy. And loved very much by their dads. But her mind kept running back to "eww, gay makes it wrong."
And I think they probably should have addressed the homophobia issue first. It was probably too much of a jump.
I'm really surprised no one
I'm really surprised no one asked her about single parents. They could've NAILED her on that one. If every kid needs a mother and father, why is it that you're not fighting the rights of single parents to have kids? Aren't there more single parents than there are gay ones? (That question actually isn't rhetorical...I really don't know, lol).

30 Days: Same Sex Parenting
I realize it's been about a year since anyone has posted on this subject but I personally just saw the episode earlier today(well, last night). My fiance and I were also quite ticked about the attitude of the woman on the show. I found out about the episode on another site where I posted a couple comments if anyone cares to read them.
30 Days: Same Sex Parenting | Green Dads
My fiance decided that if religious people are going to slap homosexuals with the Bible, then they should be prepared to follow it to the letter. She's now writing a paper noting some of the changes to US laws and society in order to do just that. The paper is titled "Bend over, it's going in sideways". If it interests anyone, I may ask her to post it here.
*sighs*
If you listen to her carefully, she didn't want to challenge her views on the matter, she wanted to prove that she was right. She wasn't willing to change, so therefore she didn't.
And seriously, I don't think she's heard that there are people in the LGBT community that follow Christianity....
AND that she thinks that the kids shouldn't know about the GBLT community. I WISH I knew sooner than I did. I had to teach myself. I mean if they didn't know, and they were fighting homosexuality it makes it sooo much harder, especially if they learn that it is 'wrong'.
AND what is that "the definition of gay is two men sleeping together" It is not!
AND what's that crap about the church has no order. Religions are all about order, and doing the right thing!!!
AND laws have nothing about "moral fiber" in them. It's about what is fair, and just (supposedly) not what the general people are morally for or against, because there would be no law if we did that.
I'm like two seconds from stopping to watch this! It's infuriating!!!

Agreed.
Although, if we could erase people's stupidity, then there would be no more problems in the world, and people seem to thrive on problems.

I agree with your remark on
I agree with your remark on stupidity. Ignorance is one thing, but flat out refusal to learn and attempt to understand is quite another. It bothers me more when there are children involved. She even admitted that they were good parents. What the hell is wrong with her? If you're against something that's quite obviously best for the 'greater good' just because you *think* that's what your deity desires then you should take a look at your deity more closely; all-powerful, merciful, universal genius that's too dumb to figure out evolution and hates homosexuality so much that innocent children should suffer as a result. I would take issue with that, personally, and find a new religion. Although if they had read the books in their ENTIRETY, they'd find that their God is NOT against homosexuality but simply pro-Life. Ensuring a decent upbringing for part of mankind's future definitely sounds pro-Life to me.
*nods*
I agree entirely. In most religions, Christianity especially, the whole point is compassion. But people still persecute under their religion, because that's what they hear from the preacher, pastor, or pope, when really if you READ, it's more of a "hate the sin, love the sinner" type thing. That's why I think my friend is on the right track when it comes to her religion. She doesn't hate people for who they are, she hates what they do, but will still find it in her heart to help and accept them. That's the way it should be.
And it is true that the Bible says nothing against homosexuality. That's the Church's doing.
And the whole thing about them being great parents, but still thinking that they shouldn't adopt is hypocrisy. I mean she saw with her own eyes how those kids were cared for and loved, AND she saw what they would've been living in without their dads, but she still doesn't think it's right. It's one big circle. I mean she was soo emotional when she was listening to the people who were foster kids, and yet she won't even acknowledge that living in a gay or lesbian household is better. She was thinking more of her "morals" than of the kids, and she's a mother!

My Rant
I think that she does do a lot of the 'love the sinner, hate the sin' Kinda thing! It's so horribly hypocritical that it drives me mad! But maybe she was learning something from them, how they can be good parents, but then the red flag goes up when she hits 'gay' and she doesn't even try to understand it! She just stops. And it's sad, and I felt bad for the guys in the end because they really did want to make an impact on her, but they just couldn't reason with her. She was so stuck in her beliefs that she couldn't find it in her to change. I don't think she went in there with the open-mindedness needed to see a different view other than her own.
I agree that they would have nailed her on single parents though. Would have loved to see her reaction to that.
I dunno about anybody else, but I got mad at the first woman he talked to, the one with a gay dad but who is now against gay adoption. I just wanted to yell at her. It wasn't that her dad was gay it was because he was promiscuous and inappropriate! I mean, he probably would have acted the same with female partners as with male. It was just who he was. He was just a bad guy. I didn't think she really had the right to stand against the entire issue of gay adoption just on her personal experience. I also think she should have realized it didn't matter if he was gay or straight. He was just not a good father.
So ya, there's my rant on this subject.
