School has been kicking my ass lately. I don't enjoy it. If my physics mark is under eighty I'm going to have a fucking breakdown, because I've invested far too much of my life into that class over the last few weeks. And Social can go die in a corner. And our GSA is the most unproductive piece on the planet. I'm pretty much doing everything behind the scenes, because we'll get together at meetings, come up with all these ideas, then there's no follow-through. From anyone, including the teacher. I do all the fucking work. One other girl, the best friend of my supposed co-leader, does a bit, which is more than I can say for anyone else. I don't need a break from school yet -- really, we just got back from a break at the beginning of February. I'm just...wanting to scream a lot of the time. But I'm not apathetic! Which is good!
I saw the neverfuckingending crush for about ten seconds on Saturday night, and sie is apparently coming to my birthday party (*squeeeee!*).
And...and...and this song. Needs to get out of my head.
Ok! Ok, question!!!
International Day Of Silence
or
International Day Against Homophobia
?
See, my GSA's nowhere near put together enough to do both. The Day Of Silence bothers me because I feel that we're fighting to end the silence, so remaining silent is kind of an odd way to do so. I mean, unless it's your friends or teachers, no one is going to notice if you don't talk all day. But on the other hand, it's easy. And a huge event.
The IDAH is newer, and requires a lot more planning, because there's no set thing that people are supposed to do. It's also nearer to things like Grad and final drama/musical theater plays. But I think it could be a lot of fun.
So. For those of you who have a GSA at your school or had one or wished you had one or want to comment or...I can't think of anything else... Yeah. Which one is your gSA doing/would you choose to do?
Haha, see? Content!

Eh...
Seems like it'd be better to skip DoS if you're the person running the show and you don't believe in its mission, but it is the one that has the most behind it as far as GLSEN giving you stuff to give the administration and such (at least I think they do). So, for your sanity, DoS is the easier one to pull off.
Personally, I'm not a huge DoS fan, but generationally, I wore a Silence = Death T-shirt, so to me, it's a bit too much of a 180. In fact, my Silence=Death shirt got me a better job at my local newspaper, but that's a story for another day.

Day of silence...
i agree with you on the day of silence thing completely.. Unless you get a serious mass of people in your school to do it, it wont even get noticed. And i agree with why it botheres you, i feel the same way. I fully support the gay movement, obviously. But staying silent when we encourage people to be out and proud? i mean its nice out here.. its kind of like taking a step backwards.. then again those people need the most support. its a touchy subject.
My opinion...
Every year (well...almost every) my GSA does the day of silence. We print of stickers and people are silent for the whole day. I think it sends a good message, but I don't usually participate. I feel the same way you do. Being silent is kind ofredundant. I would rather speak up for something I believe in, than be silent for it. Suggestion, if I may? I am planning on doing a Pride Week at my school. This can be at any time, and still have much of the same effect as DOS would. But this is just my two scense.
