So my mom calls me in while she's looking at this .pdf that my school is sending out to all the parents on behalf of the Pennsylvania Catholic Conference [*groan*]. The first thing I see:
"Know the FACTS about...Protecting Marriage in Pennsylvania"
And as soon as I saw that, I wanted to flip out, so badly.
She prints it out. "Don't throw this away, I want to read it." which is code for, "I really don't care if you hate me for reading and supporting this!"
This file makes me so incredibly angry. Really it does. Look at this bullshit:
What the Pennsylvania Marriage Protection Amendment will do...
--Allow the voters of Pennsylvania to define marriage as the union of one man and one woman.
--Protect the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania from having to legally recognize civil unions as “marriages” in Pennsylvania.
--Protect the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania from having to recognize alternative or nontraditional “marriages” performed in other states or foreign countries.
--Protect Pennsylvania’s present marriage law (the Defense of Marriage Act of 1996) from court challenge.
What the Pennsylvania Marriage Protection Amendment will NOT do...
--It will NOT take any existing rights away from anyone.
--It will NOT affect benefits offered by private employers.
--It will NOT affect wills, joint ownership of property, contracts or agreements between unmarried
--It will NOT unfairly discriminate against anyone.
Why should the Church be involved in the discussion of protecting marriage?
Precisely because the family is the primary cell of human society we all must be involved in establishing the definition of marriage which reflects the values of the people of the Commonwealth.
"It will NOT unfairly discriminate against anyone." <-- Only the biggest lie I've ever heard.
So yeah, there goes my chances of a GSA at school. :|
