Rent closes on Broadway on June 1

Well, it has to happen at some point, and RENT is finally being evicted in a few short months.

After nearly 12 years running, the show is now the seventh longest-running musical in Broadway history.

So, if you get a chance, check it out one last time.

That is really sad. but my god, the fact that it lasted as long as it did is really incredible.
It's one of those shows that completely changed my life. helped me get through a lot of stuff..... i mean, i wasn't a part of the Rent-head generation, i was only 6 when it opened, but the music has been really a great thing for me.

I'm a little upset i was hoping to see it on broadway but sadly that won't happen before June 1. I saw it when it was on tour but I still wanted to see it in New York. But because of finances there is no way that i will possibly be able to see it before June 1.

This may be cynic, but,

This may be cynic, but, finally! I mean, I liked Rent, I saw it a couple times, I loved it. But that was tooooo much time for, well, anything.

Well...

Seeing how it's all tied to ticket sales, I guess it was doing well for this long. Obviously, it was insane again this past summer when Anthony and Adam came back for a few months. That was probably to stave off the show closing earlier, and pique interest in the show again.

Strangest thing to me, on the Rent website, it mentions the movie version as being a "box office failure." I don't know the numbers, but still, you'd think on the Rent site...

the movie wasn't a total

the movie wasn't a total failure, i don't think. it did open at #5. it wasn't well reviewed though. but entertainment weekly did give it an A.
really though, i agree, on a rent site?

I Kinda got really excited

I Kinda got really excited when I heard about this on the radio. Now, I won't deny that I was a rent-head for a long time in my early adolescant life, much like everyone else in the world. But, FINALLY. It's not relevant anymore. It hasnt' been relevant for a good long time. AIDs is still a big problem, sure, but the lack of modern music on Broadway is not.

It had a good run. Great run. Did some revolutionizing and some life-changing and some inspiring middle school choruses to do bad renditions of Seasons of Love-ing. Thank god it's retiring.

Be yourself. 'Cause if you're busy being somebody else, who's gonna be you?

what's not relevant, the

what's not relevant, the story or the music?
because if it's the story, then you might have to say that a lot of other musicals that deal with a certain part of history (in other words, pretty much all musicals) aren't relevant.
also, andrew lloyd webber started writing rock operas/musicals in the 70's, so Jonathan Larson wasn't exactly the first to do modern music. it had been around for a while, and it continues to stay today.
