Anyone who has been reading my journal knows that I have issues with my dad, mainly that he doesn't really acknowledge my existance. Well today I made a chip in his shield of apathy he has towards me.
I originally planned to hang out with my friend Nick today but he slept in and didn't answer his door (Not the first time...). So this left me wide open for the day. Well when I got home I noticed my dad had taken to doing some yard work and was cutting down some trees near the side of the house. Lacking anything better to do and seeking some sort of approval I offered to give him a hand. Since he was low on help (My brothers also slept in, what is it with some people?) he accepted and I helped him cut down the trees and stack the wood.
During the process of cutting down one of the trees my dad was trying to throw a rope between its branches so he could pull it to keep it from hitting our house. Well this was easier said than done because the tree had a lot of branches on one of its side that kept catching the rope. Noticing the other side was pretty bare of limbs I offered my dad the advice of trying from the other side so that it would be easier. He initially blew it off saying something like "Well it's harder than it looks..." but I pointed out again that it would be alot easier from the other side. Well he looked and smirked "Yeah I guess you're right", he told me "Good eye"
Now this may sound like nothing, but it's the first time my dad has taken my advice on ANYTHING in like two years. He normally doesn't even try to see things from anyone else's perspective and just does his own thing. But I think today maybe he saw that I wasn't just the slacker he thought I was (He doesn't consider my job with the school an actual job) and that I can have decent ideas every once in awhile.
YEAH FOR FAMILY BONDING TIME! :)
