I agree with you both to an extent, but I've turned to *new* things for comfort and you're bound to at some point if you haven't already. Drugs of any sort (alcohol and nicotine count there too!) are bad news and you should work on finding speech/writing/watching TV/working/working out as therapeutic or distracting enough that you avoid doing something you know is bad!
