I am now an aspiring vegetarian

Yah, the title says it all. I want to be a vegetarian. Lately whenever I've eaten hot dogs or pork chops and things like that, I've thought, "Ugh! This used to be an effing animal, and I'm eating it!" I want to stop eating meat. Blergh.

Problem is, I don't know how to break it to my family. They'll have to completely change their shopping habits for me. Instead of getting me corndogs, hot dogs, turkey, and the like, they'll have to buy me meat substitutes. I don't know whether they'd be willing to do that, and I don't know how understanding they'll be. Plus, I'll have to give up corndogs. I love corndogs! Please, somebody tell me they make tofu-dogs or something. I know I'm perfectly capable to give up corndogs, but I don't want to, unless there are vegetarian-friendly substitutes for them.

If anyone reading this is a vegetarian or knows a vegetarian and has some advice for me, I'm all ears. (Or eyes...)

I asked my mom yesterday if I could cut my hair and get a boy cut. She said it was okay with her, and that she'd be willing to take me to a hair parlor where they'd cut it. I have shoulder-length hair, and I want it off. I know a lot of girls like having long-ish hair because it makes them look pretty or whatever, but my hair just annoys me. I don't know why; I can't really explain it. It just feels like it's in my way. I want it off.

Wow, I'm becoming a stereotypical lesbian. I want to be a vegetarian and get a boy cut. I slick back my bangs with gel most of the time, and I work out in order to keep in shape. I lift weights a lot. (I'm really proud of my arms, actually. They're all muscly and butch. :D) God, this is weird.

On a completely different note, I wore leggings yesterday. They extended to a few inches above my knees. I think I actually looked pretty good in them. I'm about five foot six, so I have long legs, and the leggings really emphasized them. I was also wearing this top that showed off my boobs. I think I looked pretty hot. :D It was awesome.

I think I'll sign off now. Remember, comments are nice! :D

Hmm...

I've been veggie for 13-14 years, and vegan for 3-4, I think...

Morningstar Farms makes veggie corn dogs. Available almost everywhere.

While all of the fake meats and stuff are good transitional foods, which is exactly where you are, they aren't very healthy long-term (albeit healthier than meat, regardless). Of course, I do it for healthy reasons first. I'm a bit strange in that I'm not concerned about eating dead animals, but more that I didn't really like the spiritual energy of having them killed *for me.* so, whenever I'd go to a restaurant, it was like 'I think... I'd like a pig to be slaughtered tonight.'

The biggest way to success as a vegetarian is cooking and making great food. If you just take the food you eat now, and get all the fake meat and same sides as everyone else, it's so close that it's a very short step back to that world. Once you get into cooking and trying different things, it's much easier to enjoy it all.

I personally use the McDougall Program (http://www.drmcdougall.com/), which is specifically low-fat and vegan, which has a lot of amazing health benefits including weight loss and cancer prevention. His newsletters online are also a good source of information, since you'll have to deal with all the uninformed people asking where you're getting your protein and all of this other stuff.
