Youth Programs

electricity's picture

Googling to find LGBT centers in my area is difficult. Maybe some of you have the same problem: you want to get involved in programs, camps, centers, and in general socialize with other gay youth, but you can't find any centers in your area.

So is there anyone that knows of any links or easier ways to find gay youth programs in our own area?

I thank you in advance!

Seattle has the pride foundation, lambert house on capitol hill, PFLAG, seattle pride and several other youth organizations...there are alot, especially in your area.

look up PFLAG in the phone book

also, there should be a section in the phone book about GLBT resources locally...if that doesn't work, you could always try outproud.org and look off of their links to things...they always have stuff...even tho I'm not too into looking for the local stuff...good luck.

Yeah, I resulted in checking

Yeah, I resulted in checking the phonebook today too but no luck. It's even hard finding on Google. I'm checking out OutProud right now and is QueerAmerica not working?

I've had problems with that too

I haven't been able to get the thing on outproud to work for a while.
I found a book for queer youth that had a short list of gay youth programs. The book was called Free Your Mind.

Diversity Clubs

If you want to start a gay yout program, start out with a Diversity Club. The town I live in isn't diverse AT ALL... and we wanted a GSA. So we got the idea from a teacher and the principal for a Diversity Club. It covers all aspects of diversity including (but not limied to) homosexuality, different religions, different races, appearance, etc. It has been working so far. Attempt it, because you always have to have a first step. If you would like anymore information, just send me a message!

Hmm...

OutProud and QueerAmerica haven't really been updated in a while. I could take them over, actually, if I want to, but I don't know that I can give them the proper attention. We'll be discussing that more once Adrian switches Oasis over to journals, etc.

umm... an hour south of seattle...

deepspace87.... well, i have heard good things about all the places mentioned up in seattle... anything on capitol hill is probably going to be really open and supportive....

but if you don't want to drive quite that far, i have heard there is quite a large group in tacoma.... i'm pretty sure it's called oasis.... i've never been but i know a few people who really like it....

good luck!! :)

Yeah...

The Tacoma group was actually started, if I'm not mistaken, by author Brent Hartinger.

I thought I'd post this

I thought I'd post this here:
I dunno if anyone lives in G.P., AB, Canada, but there is a GLBTQ centre in our town. I've been there practically since it opened, so yea. Just thought I'd post that... Thursday is coffee night...
(Never thought I'd be trying to get people to come on here...)

I've never really tried to

I've never really tried to find a GLBT center near my town, but now that I google it, I have a hard time finding them, which is weird because I live in a relatively liberal town.
