I bought some rainbow shoelaces today.

but then I ran into a friend randomly at the mall and he said that one of his best friends was just attacked with a beer bottle because he is gay.
So I went from happy out and proud to down in the dumps depressed.

But one of my straight friends cheered me up. He said "don't worry, we'll protect you" and he gave me a big bear hug.

I still hate that there are hateful people in the world. Even though this is a very liberal town, we are in the middle of nowhere, and you only have to drive ten minutes out of town to find scary conservative towns. The town where it happened is almost a walk away, but they have active hate groups there that everyone knows about.
