Hi guys!
Here are some updates on the Gay Like Me project:
First, our buddy and superdupermega web guru Adrian is going to be creating a seperate forum just for this project! Yay! This will make it easier to keep it organized. So in answer to Pink's question about where to post your work, you can post it (or a link to it) on that forum once it's in place if you want everyone to give input on it. Once you have it to where you consider it finished, THEN you should email it to me. I also have set up a special email address just for this project. It is gaylikeme@samersguild.com. If you'd prefer not to post your work, that's fine. We will have editors to help you polish up your writing.
And on the subject of editors: we now have way more volunteers than we need. I appreciate the enthusiasm, but I'll have to narrow it down to three. So tell you what - all of you who really want to be one of the three editors, please send me an email at the above address telling me why you want to be an editor on this project. Please include any special qualifications you may have. I would like to have these emails by January 17th please. I will choose three of you based only the emails I receive, not on the replies to the sign up post. If you're not chosen, please don't take it personally. It doesn't mean that you're not qualified, just that the others were slightly more qualified.
I was going to post some further guidelines on what sort of thing we're looking for, but after reading all the replies to the sign-up post, I find I don't need to do that. You guys have the idea down perfectly. We want all your different points of view, in whatever medium you choose to express it.
Okay lastly, although the editors still need to be chosen, I'm going to hereby declare this project underway. The deadline to get your work to me is Sunday, February 24th. Yes, there will be a grace period of a few days, but please try to make the deadline. Deadlines are an important part of life, as you already know from school or work or wherever you are lifewise.
If you have questions, you can post them here or email me at the above address. Prospective editors, I await your emails as well.
Good luck everyone, and remember I'm right here to help you.
Ciao!
Patrick
One More Thing (okay, two or three more)
First, a typo: the deadline is Sunday, February 25th, not 24th. Sorry about that.
When you send me you finished work, whatever it may be, please include the following:
Your First Name (just for my benefit)
Your Oasis Name (this will be the byline for your work)
Your Age
Your Town & City (Town & Country for non-US people)
Your Gender (please don't put other. Pick a term, or if you don't have one you're comfortabe with, put undecided.)
A Little Bio Paragraph (what kind of stuff do you likr to do? What's your philosophy of life? Just a little blurb to tell readers a bit about you. This will go in the book along with your work).
Oh, as far as formats:
Writing should be in the form of an MS Word DOC, an RTF or TXT file.
Artwork should be a GIF, a JPG, or a TIFF, preferably 300dpi resolution. If your file is too big for you to email, let me know and I'll give you an address where you can send a disk.
Okay, that's it for now. Keep an eye out for further updates. As soon as the new forum is in place, further posts should all go there.
Ciao!
Patrick

Oh gosh, I feel stupid, but I feel that I must ask.
The book is about discrimination and prejudice committed against queers, so that's the main criteria, correct?

Actually no. This book is
Actually no. This book is about the experience that queer & questioning teens are having/have had while growing up. How much of that is about descrimination & prejudice will depend on each person's experience. We want to not only portray the dark side, but also send a message of hope.

2 questions: can we write
2 questions:
can we write poetry for this, or is it just stories and art, and also, can we send you more than one thing and then you can, like, choose which one is best or something?

You can submit whatever you
You can submit whatever you like and as much as you like. It will be up to the editorial staff to decide how much of each person's contributions to use.

do we have to put our city?
do we have to put our city? can we just put the general area of where we live?
Wife: THAT'S got spam in it!
Man: Hasn't got as much spam in it as spam egg sausage and spam, has it?
If you're not comfortable
If you're not comfortable you can just put your state, province, general area. Whatever you feel like sharing. I just want readers to get an idea of how broad an area the book represents.

Maybe we should put oasis's
Maybe we should put oasis's website in the book. i'm wondering...you know how some of the site won't be accessable unless you're signed in... well maybe we should leave the GLM forum open to be read by anyone. They have the creation of the movie..so maybe we could have the GLM forum for the public to read so they can see how it came together?
and also...will we have a list of resources in the back or something?
just some ideas...
There are a few things in life worth dying for; but there are a million things worth living for!
the resources and website in
the resources and website in the back sounds like a good idea
