kinda disappointed in my GSA....

lookin to the future...'s picture

so, last week i decided to give the GSA a try... last years GSA was very
small, like 5 or 6 kids and to be honest they never got anything accomplished
so i ended up not attending that often. well, last week i get there and there
must have been 40 kids in the room.... mostly sophos and juniors. the group
was a little "different" to be honest but not exactly being normal myself,
who was i to judge, right?
anyways, the facilitator asked us to all go around and share something
interesting about ourself. almost all of the kids in the room were girls and
you would not imagine the number that made this big deal about being bi... to
be honest i can understand that there are really bisexual individuals out there
but come on, these girls are just confused and looking for attention...they
were all over each other... it was like one big orgy.. really disgusting.
i was sooo disappointed... there are plenty of normal LGBT kids at my school
(acutally a really high number)... why can't they be part of this club.
then and there, i decided to not take part in the group... it really saddened
me but all these kids wanted to do was wave their sexuality in everyone's face
why do people feel the need to do that? so frustrating!!

eh...

Everyone has a different path.

If they are testing the waters, that might be the only place they are comfortable doing that. But, technically, if it is distracting people from having a productive group, and making other people steer clear of going, then it needs to be addressed by the person running it.

I mean, even if the meeting has an undercurrent of sexuality (based on its mission), that doesn't mean people should be there to be hanging on each other and such.

It needs to be about support and such, not your school's sanctioned gay bar.

Of course, when i ran my university's gay group, half the people wanted to be political, and half wanted to do fun things. So, it will never be everything to everybody, at least not all the time.

I'm a total myspace whore (and by whore, I mean I use it to sleep with people, I'm not on it often), so ADD ME AS A FRIEND

hye, our GSA is the same, which is why i never go...lol

Do you live in edmonds??? I looked @ ur myspace page, and it said ehs or something like that, so I figured that you went to school/ lived over there...God, four AP classes??? That's insane. Then again, like four of my friends are doing the same kinda thing. And I kind of hate GSA's. They are there for a good purpose, but like you said, they are often a stereotypical gay orgy...lol. I am too much of a wuus to even go to the GSA at my school. Enough people think I'm gay without outing myself by going to a GSA meeting. Well, it's good to have another Wahingtonian on here...there are actually quite a few on the site...anyways...welcome to oasis...I'm assuming this was your first post?

I'm all for people figuring o

I'm all for people figuring out who they are and 'testing the waters', but that's no reason to be whores.
My school's gsa was exactly like that, and that's why it fell apart and now no one's bothered to bring it back. I would've but I would've ended up banning so many people for being rediculous/slutastic it wouldn't even have worked.
I'd say you should talk to the facilitator about it.
