My first thought of the site: "This looks welcoming."
When I arrive: "People here are of two extremes. Really happy...or really depressed."
It's a shame that this world drives people to be one of two extremes. This is really presumptuous that everyone is one of the two, but that is merely my first impression and isn't accurate. The two extremes make me think of another pair of extremes: heterosexual and homosexual. An individual may seem to be one of the two, but they can be anywhere in between. Just some of us are afraid to admit it because others are afraid of welcoming the thought of an indefinite line between the two extremes.
This is my senior year, and I will soon be off to college. I am interested in Gender Studies, but I'm not sure how a major in that will give me a stable future.
I'm glad to be part of this site, and I do sound uptight right now, but I feel philosophical today. Hopefully, I'll be in a lighter mood tomorrow.

Welcome...
Hey Toph, welcome to the site.
I think extremes are also huge on the Internet in general. like, on Amazon, people are compelled to review a book if they absolutely love it, or absolutely hate it. As such, I think people want to write about their lives when they are at similar extremes, so my thinking is it isn't a true account of people's actual moods, but when they feel compelled to post online.
As for college majors, there are tons of people doing stuff that has nothing to do with what they studied in school. And, if you're really concerned, that's what minors are for.
Hope you stick around on the site. :-)

Like your thoughts
Like your thoughts.Although I must note that as soon as you reach College you will change them very quickly or find that anyone you tell that to will have an argument ten times better than yours. Ah, the realities of college. Also I have meet an extreme homosexual and an extreme heterosexual actually a few. Plus a lot of studies done on sexuality will prove that the extreme can exist. Although, I am not one to argue on that point with you I am not majoring in psychology or any kind of sexuality study class. Although I did pick philosophy as my minor although I came into it kind of late and have only taken two classes in philosophy. Kind of bad since I am supposed to graduate in a year. Although, I am rambling now I basically wanted to say hi and welcome. Also keep up the thoughts maybe I can argue one back and forth with you.
Clarification
My point is society pressures individuals to be of certain extremes. Perhaps not in reality extreme, but in the eyes of society they are. For example, gay or straight. To people in general (at least here), someone is either one of the two, hence extremes. If there is an in-between, it is thought there is some kind of flaw or oddity about the person.

Hey
Hello, welcome, etc
Yeah people can be very depressed or very happy here. I think its easier to be an extreme when typing. The lack of voice and inflection makes it hard to be in between. Sarcasm often flies right out the window
"Fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suf-fer-ing"
Yikes...
If no one reads sarcasm well on this site, I'm screwed.

Be yourself. Because if you're busy being someone else, then who's gonna be you?
"This is really presumptuous
"This is really presumptuous that everyone is one of the two, but that is merely my first impression and isn't accurate."
I'm not saying everyone here is one of two extremes. It's just my first impression, but we all know first impressions usually aren't true. I'm delighted to see everyone is so insightful and discuss things. I love knowing both sides of the story.

I think the extremes come out
I think the extremes come out here because people like to write on here to get their feelings out. So if they're really happy or really sad or angry they come here to share/get it out because its bursting inside them. Alot of peoples blogs seem to share more intense thoughts and emotions than they ever share to you in person. Its easier to type things down than say them.
Gender Studies Rock
Yay for gender Studies!! and I'm glad you're here on this site
