Scene III: Moving Pictures
(Cut to the backs of the threesome meandering towards a movie theater entrance that appears to be about 100 feet away, though details are fuzzy as it is out of focus. The boys are in a horizontal line spanning the frame of the shot, Greg in the middle with Vaughn on his left and Jason on his right, and Greg is two feet away from either of them. The camera is low to the ground, the shot capturing the boys from just below the knee up to a foot above their heads. The light from the billboard and theater name are so bright and large they make it impossible to see the details of the boys’ backs. The theater name is blood-red neon, and is very large, seeming to fill the entire top half of the screen. There is no sound accept for the scuffing of the boys’ shoes on the concrete. Hold shot for five seconds.)

(Cut to front of the trio, same spacing, placing and framing as before, their fronts are awash in white and red light, the parking lot lampposts far in the background, so small they are almost not there. Their strides are similar, except that Jason’s is more abashed, and he is looking at Greg out of the corner of his eye. After a moment, Greg reaches moves as if to retrieve his wallet from his right back pocket. Jason sees this and turns his head to look at Greg to speak. Vaughn makes no reaction.)

J: (Nervous) Wait, um . . .

(He moves towards Greg and lightly reaches out with his left arm towards Greg’s arm, his fingers leading the way, positioned with his forefinger slightly outstretched, the other fingers loosely curled.)

J: (His voice is fading, he’s losing courage fast) I’ll . . . pay for . . .

(Cut to a close-up of his hand from the front, and we see it touch just below Greg’s shoulder. Greg turns his head to look at Jason and sees the closeness, and though his eyes betray his sensing the lack of space between them, he does not move away. Cut to a close-up of Greg’s and Jason’s faces, the shot bordered by their ears which we can’t see because of the bright light source in front of them, which is only the light from the white movie list. Greg’s looking down slightly due to their height difference, and their faces are mere inches apart. Jason’s lips move as if to say more, but he is unable to, and they remain slightly ajar. Hold shot for three seconds.)

(Pan to where Greg's face is in the middle, and just the outline of Jasons face, frame ending right behind his eye, which is invisible in the shadow caused by the aluminated movie list. Suddenly an arm slowly reaches across the screen, the forearm aligned with the elbow below the bottom left-corner and its widespread fingers pointing to the top right area of the frame. The sinewy hand grabs Greg's shoulder tightly, possessively, and pulls Greg minutely away from Jason.)

V: Don't worry guys; I got this one.

(Cut to the front of the three boys, the shot encompassing their entire bodies. The threesome is not centered in the shot, rather, Jason is closer to the left side of the screen, further implying that he is being pushed out by Vaughn, who we now see is the one who had slung his arm around Greg. Greg, although his shoulders have been pulled towards Vaughn, his feet remain where they were previously, so his body appears contorted, with his upper body at a crooked 20 degree angle from the line of his legs. Jason's mouth has snapped shut, his eyes widened, and his nostrils flared, his previously outstretched fingers recoiled, although his arm remains afloat, uncertain of where to go. Vaughn is not looking at either Greg or Jason, instead his gaze is raised upwards, several feet above the camera. He is silently perusing the titles of the films that are currently playing. Greg's expression is one of confusion and is obviously feeling ill at ease. His arms are stiffly bent in slight yet apparent disgust. Looking nonplussed at Vaughn's arm, he says:)

G: Uh , gee . . . thanks . . .

(Cut to zoom in around the heads of Vaughn and Greg.)

V: (He is completely unaware of how his actions have affected Jason and Greg, his attention totally focused on the movie titles) How about the new Keanu Reeves movie? (He turns his face towards Greg, whose eyes widen in surprise, as if starting to understand what is going on, but he looks at Vaughn, his eyes pleading for further explanation)

G: (Greg hesitantly mutters, not quite forming a word, instead creating a sound of indecision laced with discomfort) . . . eunh . . .

J: (His voice is urgent, yet not overly so, he obviously wants to put an end to Vaughn's advances and free Greg while still keeping control of himself and not starting an open conflict with Vaughn) How about The Third Man? It's a one night viewing.

(Cut to zoom out to previous shot.)

G: (Pauses for a split second, then his face brighten as he sees the oppurtunity to escape from the obviously awkward predicament. He speaks rushedly, excited) Hey that's an awesome idea! Come on Vaughn, let's go get the tickets. (He quickly twists out from under Vaughn's arm, and unabashedly jogs past the camera toward the ticket booth.)

(Vaughn turns his head to glare momentarily at Jason, his teeth slightly bared and lips minutely curled, as he moves to follow Greg, his arm reaching into his back pocket for his wallet. He walks forward determined, his torso bent slightly forward, and his head turns angrily to look at the retreating off-camera figure of Greg. Jason's face remains stoic, his defensive eyes staring back at Vaughn. His head turns to maintain their hold on Vaughn as he disappears in the same manner as Greg. Jason remains where he is standing, his long bangs, casting shadows that reach to just below his eyes.)

N J: (His voice is low, filled with meaning, almost growling) It was at that instant that I knew . . .

(Cut to behind him, from his shoulders up, the top of his head in the center of the shot, part of the brightly glowing movie list. The bottom parts of the letters MAN are visible, the two legs of the "A" surrounding Jason's head)

N J: (Same voice as before) . . . that something had to be done.
