so i think the republicans are thinking...
"crap, we suck, we've accomplished nothing, the nation is in crazy-ass debt, we're total fuck-ups, we're stuck in iraq, we still have nothing really to show for as far as responses to 9/11 goes, n. korea is testing nukes, health care in this country sucks, we definately dropped the ball on the foley thing, and how many people were indicted from our party? there's the katrina thing, the gaza strip, literally the world hates us... ok, what can we do, we need something to get the voters back on our side... i know! the gays! we'll talk about the gays! America, the gays will recruit your children, they threaten the very ideals of traditional family values that this country was founded on! Fear them! and in your fear, forget about how shitty we really are, and vote for us anyway on the grounds that we don't like gays either."

He he he
This is pretty funny! Isn't it amazing our people think a common hate for something, unites them? (Sadly, it seems to though.)
I haven't been keeping up with the elections in the US (I'm from South Africa) so I'm glad people are writing about it here.
On the topic of politics relating to gay people, what rights do you guys have against discrimination?
Well...
They've been doing that for a while. The entire administration rests on creating a dramatic crisis or enemy to fight against. They've been floatinfg around topics for months looking for one that get the support going. This is just one of many.
They're not complaining about most of the things they've done, a lot of them got support originally. They need the votes from some new issue though. Good luck to them. They're going to need it

It is mostly through Oasismag
It is mostly through Oasismag that I get my impression about the political climate regarding LGBT in the U.S. ... as I live in the Netherlands. And I don't want to promote that myth of the glorious gay-friendly Netherlands because it is not true, but yeah, I do realize how dramatically different the political climate regarding gay people is in different countries. Like, here, gay is just not an issue. Which has good and bad sides. (I know, Dutch people have more rights. But still there is homophobia and people don't dare to come out out of fear, and all that stuff. and since nobody talks about it, it is really hard to find a community and support. That's how I see it.) But I am really glad I don't have to hear politicians talk bullshit about gay people every day.
So I hope there are enough Americans to vote the Republicans out of Congress!!!
