Well, yesterday I attended a friends' son's wedding...It was pretty poorly planned and the bride took forever getting prepared-she almost got cold feet-I think....I felt bad for the groom, ramon though, because he basically married a crack-whore, even though he started out as her friend and is now raising her son by another guy as his own...Ramon Sr., the groom's dad, and his mom were really scared about him marrying her, but they had to roll w/ his decision and be there as his parents...Anyway, Ramon has this one friend who is either gay or bi, I'm not sure, who was the best man...aanyway, when the priest who married the bride and groom was up there doing his little deal, he totally turned it into a political, anti-gay marriage thing....He selected several passages from the bible and defined marriage as the SACRED BOND BETWEEN A MAN AND A WOMAN....he totally put the emphasis on this and started looking in the direction of the best man...it kind of made me angry, not just because he used like five selections from the bible to bash gay-marriage at the wedding, but also the way that he said it....he was just a conservative douche...oh well, I guess some people never change...I should just go online and become an ordained minister like my friend and start doing gay weddings-it might work, and it would be pretty funny...
The wedding also depressed me though...My mom and the groom's mom started talking abotu me getting married eventually and during the whole ceremony, I began to feel out of place, not only because I hadn't seen the groom in about two years, but also because I realized, and for the first time it really, really hit me- I cannot be married...at least not in my own country...God, it really got me down...I mean, I was happy for Ramon, but I had never fully realized until then that gay marriage is not legal, and for such stupid and bigoted reasons...I love america( I actually do, but not the way the conservative right is runnign things). So anyway, I think now I might be a little more active about the cause of gay marriage, at least on some level...Hopefully at my cousin's wedding in August, these feelings won't occur, because I love him and the girl he's marrying and stuff like this would just get in the way...
peace.

Actually you can get married
Actually you can get married in certain states if you find a willing priest/judge, it just won't be recognized in about 40 to 48 states.
well that's a problem...
I know there are a few states that allow gay marriage, but the fact that most of the country is against it was the point I was trying to make. In my opinion, until all of the states in the U.S. allow gay marriage or even civil unions, we are defined as second class citizens and cannot marry.
Mental wounds not healing, driving me insane, i'm goin' off the rails on a crazy train- the ozzman
as i have mentioned elsewhere
as i have mentioned elsewhere on this site, if a church preaches love and tolerance and salvation for all mankind, and then turns around and uses its own Good Book to preach intolerance and petty insults then i have to ask how it can be paid any meaningful attention. Never once did God say 'thou shalt not be gay', nor jesus, nor anyone else except the mortals who chose to make it their business to carve out doctrines for the control and order of humanity. i have great respect for the fervently religious as long as they keep to the overall message, and it has to be said they are few and far between. people who use religion as a means to spread a personal political message are too numerous to count, i daresay they outnumber the truly devout good samaritan types, especially in poor deluded america. (insult restricted to this context by the way).
if you guys wana get official recognition come to england! Blair may get a lot wrong, but the Civil Partnerships Act 2003 has finally dragged England into the 21st century, i only hope america follows.
Augh! I am insulted for you!
Augh! I am insulted for you!
When you judge another, you do not define them, you define yourself.
laughs a little
Anyone who tries to define marriage has clearly never been married. Think of it this way... When the bride starts beating the groom because shes so cracked up their marriage will fall apart... once again proving that hetero marriage is not always the best idea in the world.
