Emo(tional)

The following rant is not intended to hurt anyone's feelings. If it does, suck it up and get some sunshine. (:<

It's hard for me to understand what attracts young teenagers to the ever-growing social group commonly known as "Emo". I have thought about it long and hard (Yes, I have no life), and I can't seem to understand how cutting your body, writing suicide notes, and complaining to every (moving?)body about how your life "sucks". I don't doubt that many people that act "emo" have a very bad life, but the many that I have life complain about common problems that befall many people. I believe that "Emo" is quite selfish and sick. What are humans comming to? What is the next generation coming to? We are all going to grow up being flooded by emotion(less) drones that dress in the "dark" color black.

One encounter with an "Emo" child I particularly remember, I was talking to a "Friend" and I was asking why he hates himself so muhc and why people don't like him. I offered suggestions like "Why don't you say Hi? Why don't you smile?" After I had said to smile, he said, " Smiling is like taking cyanide, and being happy is just as bad." Has this person seen pain at all? THEY ARE CAUSING PAIN FOR THEMSELVES. I don't understand why we all can't just be happy. Most of us have so much...

Hmm...

I don't know that you are describing emo, exactly. I mean, I've gone to concerts by Dashboard Confessional and stuff, which are like the core of the emo scene, and it seemed they used music to vent and feel better, etc. Now, it does seem the people you are describing may all be a part of that scene to some degree, but I think it is unfair to categorize all of that as "emo." Just like you saying it doesn't make sense why gay teens are suicidal, etc., etc. There are statistics that show gay teens are more likely to be suicidal than their straight peers, but are all gay teens suicidal? Not at all.

you're stereotyping. often o

you're stereotyping. often on this site people will talk about the ways that others assuming they are a stereotypical gay affects them, and you're doing the same thing but just to a different group of people. people who listen to emo music don't all cut and people who cut don't all listen to emo music, etc.

emo...

people who define themselves as 'emo' always seem to have a good life. like you said, some create pain for themselves so they can squeeze into that catagory. but some cutters are not emo, and do have a problem, a chemical imbalance in the brain. its not fair to catagorize (im not saying you did) people that cut or are depressed as emo, becuase this, at least how it seems to be going in society, is not taken as seriously when they could be using some serious and professional help. i think its getting harder and harder to tell if the pain they claim they feel is real, or something they just make up to be a little different. personally, all the ppl that ive met that claim they're emo do NOT have any serious problems, they do not cut themselves, and they are exactly like the mainstream kids, except for their clothes and the emotions they sometimes seem to pretend to feel. yeah i dont know where im going with this...but your right, emo is starting to become a scary trend...
