About ready to pack up and move to Canada

dazed and confused's picture

Fuck.

Pardon my language but I'm feeling throroughly pissed off right now. What in the hell are the American citizens thinking? Nothing's definite yet, but NBC just announced that they project Bush to take Ohio, which means he gets the election.

I've never felt this strongly about anything political before. But I'm tired of having a president who would rather I disappear because I question his fundamentally conservative religious values and complicate his political campaigns. I'm tired of having a president who is pushing to write discrimination into the constitution, just because that's how things have always been. I'm tired of living in a country that claims to give freedom to everyone, while trying to take it away from those who challenge social norms.

I want to live in a world where everyone can practice their own religion and love whomever they wish and live their life the way they see fit. Why in the hell are people so threatened by the idea of two men or two women living together in a loving, committed, legally recognized relationship? I mean, come on people! Is there really enough love in this world that we can afford to say that any particular type is wrong??

Whew. Take a breath. I'm sorry...This has just been stewing in me as I've been watching the election and seeing the overwhelming support (in seveal cases) for the 11 state-constitutional amendments banning same-sex marriage. It looks like they're all going to pass.

I realize it's stupid to vote for someone based on one issue (and this isn't my only problem with Bush), but when he challenges something that's so fundamental as who I love...I just can't ignore that.

I don't want to give up all hope. Ohio is still close at this point...about 200,000 uncounted votes, which could change the results. But more likely than not Bush will get it. And if he does, the next four years are going to suck. Big time. Anyone else thinking of moving to Canada??

I am. So are two of my closes

I am. So are two of my closest friends, a gay couple. I feel like ripping my hair out one strand at a time. I can't stand this. I just love my girl so much. And it's complete bullshit that the government thinks it can tellme who i can and cannot love. Well, Bush, I am madly in love with a woman. She's perfect. Beautiful. And the best thing in my life. No matter what, she will always be in my life. No matter what, we will always love each other. And there is not amendment that you will ever pass that can change that. (Did I mention that today is my b-day? nov 3.)

I've heard...

...great things about Canada. My roomie woke me up at 1am and told me that it looks like Kerry lost. My response was "Shit."

Study Abroad

I'm studying abroad in a year in Spain, and I hope I don't have to keep saying "Fuck Bush, I voted Kerry" (thanks, arturo) but I will if I must.

And who knows if this will push me even harder to find a job overseas or even above or below the border.

one cool thing about bush winning the election

is when he does pick his next fight and constitutes a draft for peons in his oil war, all the hot pacifist gay guys will dodge the draft and head to canada.

an influx of virile young men.

sounds almost too good to be true.

If they try and reenact the draft, then I really will consider moving to Canada. (regardless of whether or not they include women)

Sadly, I don't think even tha

Sadly, I don't think even that would solve the problem. You'd still have the vice president, who seems to have a certain level of influence on Bush's agenda. Even after that, I think there's another republican in line, though still likely better than Bush. And there's still that republican majority in congress, which grew even larger with this election. No, I think it needs to start deeper than that - with the people and their leaders. Maybe once they've had Bush for another four years, they'll wake up and realize what they've done, though I fear a number of them will still think heaven is a republican majority with a republican president.

Maybe it's time to introduce a third party.

The American people AREN'T thinking. That's the problem. And oh ya, I'll see you in Canada!

Disappointed.

Even though I live in Canada and I am not an American citizen, I still wanted Kerry to win. I was pissed when I found out that Bush was re-elected, he is an idiot.

I don't know what people were thinking.
