just a little something bout a girl i met at writing workshop. i started crushing on her in the last 3 days, of course. she wasn't at all like me.....pretty much the polar opposite, but what can i say? she was hot, and she made me all sentimental....
I Could Love a Dominican Woman
She lies on the floor with her head in my lap
Black hair fanned out across my knees
When we first met, she said latino
Now she says Taino, the native peoples
Sometimes she tells me stories
Tonight, she is talking about her aunt
Beautiful
A sign, that tells them all, Dominican women, to be kind to the tourists
They are our friends
We all know what it means
Her words mingle easily with soft spoken Spanish
Touching noses like butterfly kisses
Gentle, full of lonely laughter, warm and rambling
I love to hear her talk
She usually walks faster than I can shuffle
Perpetually swaying hips always just ahead
Tells me about Dominican ice cream
Pinapple orange on every street corner
With happiness overflowing the cone
Somedays she dances
Merengue, salsa, flamenco
She is teaching me to tell the difference by the beat of a drum, the twang of a gypsy’s violin
But she says the words surpass translation
Only tells me that they are about passion and fire
The love of her people, wild, untamable
One day, she tries to teach me to dance
I move my hips well, she says
If I only knew the footsteps, I could be good
It is a compliment
“I have to stop dating gringo boys

Pretty
I liked this poem. It was pretty, brought up great imagery.
"All that we see or seem is but a dream within a dream."
