So today was not the best day to wake up and read the newspaper: an article that the Focus on the Family group made their June 18 deadline of getting 40,000 signatures w/ 10% of the voters in 25 of Montana's counties, or something like that. The article went on about how Focus on the Family in fact got 70,000 signatures for the petition, which broke the record for number of signatures. It also said they had 10% of the registered voters in 51 out of 56 counties. Of course all of this still has to be verified, but talk about a let down. I mean, I guess it was highly predictable that this would happen, but seeing it there in the paper is really disheartening. And to make matters worse there was also some ridiculous anti-gay letter to the editor that said things like "homosexual relationships are only based on sex" and that children from those relationships would never lead healthy lives. AAAH. OK, so it's all old things that we hear all the time, but seriously, I'm finding it particularly frustrating today. IAnd let me tel you, I am going to pledge myself to the Montanans for Families and FAirness campaign (the one to counter Focus on the Family), b/c even if this does go to a vote (which it better not), I'm going to go down fighting.
