Blog from Lilyprodigious, not me

Today was by far the best day I've had of yet in my short but meaningful high school career... In Spanish class, the teacher had us making flash cards, and I finished early. Katie had given me some pink markers, (Katie=new friend) so I took the spare cards and decided to draw pink triangles on them. So I made one for Katie and one for me and we laughed and she wrote "gay pride" on hers, and then pulled a safety pin from the endless supply about her neck, and pinned it to her shirt. Then we had the idea of pinning them on all those who'd wronged us.... (without their knowledge of course) But of course we shot that down quickly, as it was difficult, mean and could result in trouble... And Katie said if I made a few more, she'd pass them out to anyone who'd wear them. I agreed on the condition that if she got in trouble I had nothing to do with it, and we spit out about 20 of them.

Some classmates had caught on to what we were doing, and so they raised questions to Katie about being gay and so on, and so of course she explained about being bi, and it got into a whole class discussion, about homophobia and all that! (we have a totally oblivious teacher) I had to hold back as a girl who attends sunday school with me is in that class, but it was incredible!

My pink triangle didn’t' say gay pride, with the idea that people would recognize it for what it was or they wouldn’t, and I put it on my backpack so I covered it up with my hair when people I didn’t want to know came around.. but it was nice to have it, my friend, the Holocaust aficionado who I haven't seen in ages, said "I'd always wondered about you..." Katie was much bolder than I, and if adbak can work it I have a pic (mirror site pic, loads faster)...

When I walked out of school, there was a sea of people wearing little pink triangles.. The whole thing was very spur of the moment, but it left me feeling great... Its amazing how you can go from having your hair spat in because of your sexuality to a mass gay pride affair in the matter of three days.
