Prom, X2

adbak's picture

Since I last left off, I attended Prom which was more fun than I thought it would be. Although the theme was "Springtime in Paris", there was very little Parisian references except for some pictures projected on screens and an ice sculpture of the Eiffel Tower. But that was fine by me since I got the Parisian in me by watching Amlie beforehand. Post-prom was at a bowling alley and was fun as well. I bowled a 184 on my first game and steadily regressed from that point on. And I feel like I severely bruised my left thumb.

I saw "X2: X-Men United" which was okay. It got me into the movie.

[UPDATE]
I forgot to mention a particular scene between Iceman and his parents. If you see the movie, pay particular attention to it because you can draw so many parallels from this "coming out" scene to our "coming out"'s to people. Perhaps it was intentional, after all, the director is gay. And so are Sir Ian McKellen and Alan Cumming. Now back to your previously scheduled blog.

Senior Skip Day is May 16 for my school. Anyone care to share any pranks?

Right...

A few comments, desite the fact that this post is very old.

1) I have yet to bowl above a 110. Stupid bowling...
2) Yeah, in X-2, that's definitely what that scene's about. The first movie had many genocide/Holocaust undertones. The second one is very big on the gay "coming out" subtext. The parents even ask Iceman, "Have you ever tried... not being a mutant?" I love that line!
3) Shawn Ashmore, the guy who played Iceman, is incredibly cute. I had a chance to meet him years ago... before he was Iceman. Long story.
4) Ashmore has a twin brother, Aaron. (I think they're twins... They look very alike!) He's just as cute as Shawn! (I'm not a stalker, I swear.)
5) Anyway, Aaron was in The Safety of Objects, a very bizarre semi-indie film. Also, he starred in a Canadian TV movie last spring called Prom Queen. It was based on the true story of a gay Catholic school student who wanted to go to his school's prom with his boyfriend. In real life, he won. Yes, the exposure ruined their relationship (in real life, they broke up a week after the prom), but he won the case. They didn't show the break-up in the movie.
6) Brian Singer (the director of X-2) is gay?!
7) Don't forget Pyro... he's cute, too!
